Pregnant after a Loss

eating nuts

Does anyone know much about eating nuts during pregnancy, especially nuts other than peanuts? My doctor had told me not to eat peanuts every day, but I was eating other nuts like almonds, walnuts, and cashews every day (and sometimes twice). I have gestational diabetes, and so nuts are a good low-carb/high-protein snack. Yesterday, I read in "American Baby" magazine that the reason why pregnant ladies should not eat peanuts every day is b/c it can cause an increased risk of asthma in the baby. The article said that it was not known whether other nuts would cause the same problem so women should limit all nuts to a few times per week. Ugh.

Re: eating nuts

  • I have been eating almonds and natural peanut butter. neither were on any restricted list and are both very healthy. I hope they are ok to eat.

  • I hadn't heard the asthma connection. The only reason I had heard to limit peanut intake was if there were peanut allergies in your family. If not, I think they are fine. I've been snacking on almonds before bedtime because the protein helps keep me feeling full longer, so I don't wake up starving.
