Help! Could it be molars?

I dont know if Ben is teething but he woke up all last night (he was sleeping with us) probably about 6 times abruptly in tears crying and screaming, hes got a terrible runny nose and is now congested, a fever that runs off and on and he is seriously fussy to the point where hes crying/whining for hours on end... this isnt how he ever acts when hes teething, hes the happiest baby Ive ever encountered, the only big teething symptom he ever had is his face breaks out in a rash , sometimes he fusses but its only for 30 mins tops maybe? I cant imagine hes getting any molars in at this age (almost 8 months) Im starting to think anything is possible since he got  his first tooth right at 3 months (started teething right before he turned 2 months) and had 8 teeth by the time he was 7 months... anyone got any insight?

Re: Help! Could it be molars?

  • Are his gums swollen?  Right before Ava started cutting molars her gums were really swollen.  If they're not, he may just have a head cold.  I know plenty of people who have them right now (we all do over here).  Whenever I get a head cold, the most miserable part of it is the drainage that causes a sore throat.  I think that is what is making Ava so whiney b/c she's had runny noses, etc. before but never been so miserable with them.  It stinks that there is nothing you can really do for a head cold, but I've given her Tylenol and Motrin to at least keep her comfortable.  Whether it's a sore throat or teething, that should help him.

  • Well, if you've ruled out an ear infection, then I say it certainly could be molars. My DS had his first 2 1-year molars at 9 months. His doc said that was the earliest he'd ever seen them. DS got his first 2 teeth by 4 months, and had 6 teeth by 6 months. At 10 months, he now has 3 teeth on the bottom, 4 teeth on the top, and 3 molars, and he's working on at least 1 tooth on the bottom and another molar.

He's not eating well now and just wants to be held, until he doesn't want to be held anymore, and then he wants down, until you put him down and then he wants held again. It's rough! I've found that for him, Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets work the best. He absolutely won't let me put orajel on his gums, and cold teething rings only stay cold so long. But the teething tablets he'll take with no problems and they seem to do the trick.
