Anyone on Nutramagen Formula??

My DS won't sleep and hates to be on his back mostly at night. During formula feedings in bottle he gets really gassy and upset. The doctor thinks that he has acid refulx and switched us to nutramagen formula...it's soooooooooo expensive! We have only been on it since Friday but I was wondering if it's worth it? Does anyone know if this works for the upset tummy and gas problems?? She said if this doesn't work then he will have to go on zantac twice a day. Would switching to soy have any effect?

Re: Anyone on Nutramagen Formula??

  • I have heard that some insurance companies will cover a portion of this as a result of being dx with reflux.

  • i have noticed a difference with gas pains and tummy problems...and a little on the refulx. my son has been on it for about 3-4 weeks now.  i'm calling his dr tomorrow because we are still having a reflux problem.
  • My DS had terrible gas and it caused him to be a really unhappy baby. He was constantly crying and it was clearly from tummy issues.  He has been on Nutramigen for about 3 1/2 weeks and it has definitely made him a lot happier.  He still has gas, but he no longer struggles to pass it.  Unfortunately, it is incredibly expensive.  If you have a Safeway by you they have the ready to feed cans on sale for $5 each.  I bought every can in that store and got a raincheck for 25 more so I can get the same price.  Also try www.babywuvinc.com   If you buy in bulk you receive a bit of a discount.  HTH!
  • I was using it till my milk came in.  My lactation consultant said that as long as it says hypoallergenic or hydrolized it is fine so you could get a Target name brand.  She said they also often say "compare to Nutramogen or Allimentum, which is the Similac equivilent."
