OK, so I've heard that the Mormons had something to do with Prop8 passing in CA, and I'm sure that a very small part of that is true, just as the Catholics and other religious organizations who preach that being gay is a sin helped to pass it as well. What I don't get is Perez Hilton calling on everyone to boycott Sundance Film Festival. It takes place in Utah - but I was not aware that it had any affiliation with the LDS church. Is he just being stupid, as usual?

(FWIW, I support gay marriage and would have voted against Prop8 had I lived in CA. And DH is a non-practicing Mormon who doesn't know the answer to this one.)
Re: Explain this to me.
Well...The LDS church DID fund a LARGE portion of the movement for Prop 8. They poured millions of dollars into it. I'd actually be surprised if they don't undergo some scrutiny of their tax exempt status for it.
Plus, something like 60 or 65% of the residents of Utah are Mormon. So its not completely off base to think that boycotting Sundance, which brings in a lot of tourist revenue, would "hurt" Mormons. However, there is still a decent population of non-Mormons who live there that will suffer too.

I'd say it's kind of dumb considering Sundance is Robert Redford's thing and he's pretty liberal.
But the lack of tourist revenue would probably hurt the Mormons who do live in Utah...
70% of black voters voted for Prop 8. What are they going to ban in protest of black people?
Around 55% of hispanic voters also voted for it. Will there be a boycott of travel to Mexico and/or Mexican/Spanish restaurants?
I don't know....seems like they're picking on one group when there were a few others that were responsible.
Ditto KISSING. What is very interesting is that Steve Smith, the famous quaterback is a direct decendant of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Morman faith. Steve Smith donated a ton of money AGAINST Prop 8, as did his wife. He formally came out against the measure a few weeks before the election. I believe there were a few other high-profile Mormons that also said they did not support Prop H8te (as it is refered to by many in CA). They sent church members to canvas neighborhoods with signs and trying to convince poeple to vote yes.
I came home to a Yes on 8 door hanger on my front door. Had I been home, I would have calmly told them to vacate my property, remove their slanderous material and please not set foot on my property again. Nothing mean, just factual.
I was raised Catholic and it saddens me greatly that the came out support of Prop 8.

veloelle - I think you mean Steve Young, descendant of Brigham Young.
Anyway, I understand the backlash against Mormons.
I think the Sundance thing is weird.
1. No one is going to listen to Perez Hilton.
2. I lived in Park City Utah.. they aren't hurting for money. They are about to hit prime time ski season. They will be just fine if "some" people decide not to show up!
haha. yes. Steve Young.
