Multiples

Things people say.

Since everyone seems to be experiencing the same type of weirdness/rudeness, I figured I'd add one.

I've been pretty much in denial since finding out there were two little nuggets in there and struggling with believing it. My first tri "paranoia" is double, as I'm sure many of you multiple mama's understand and I just am ready to see them again so I can put my mind at ease. Hurry up, 8/5!!

Anyhow, a coworker of mine told me Friday that she had a feeling about my twins-to-be. She went on to say, "I have a feeling they either both will not make it, or they both will. Not one or the other."

 Gee, thanks.

Wow!  What a negative person!  Who the hail says something like that to a pregnant woman?!?  If she ever says anything negative like that again I'd simply look at her and say "I know you think I want your negative opinion, but really, I don't.  If there isn't something positive coming out of your mouth, please keep it shut."  (Of course, easier said than done)

Well, if it matters at all, I have a feeling that both will make it, not any other way.  :)  Best of luck to you!

Also, my closest friend has 2 children, 3 & 1.  My hubby and I had been trying for quite a while to have a baby when she discovered she was pregnant with her second child.  She admitted she was afraid to tell me for fear of hurting my feelings or me being jealous.  I just looked her in the eyes and said "Kathy, I'd never wish I were pregnant instead of you.  It would be nice to be pregnant at the same time as you, but never instead of you.  I'm ecstatic that you are going to have a baby!  Don't ever think I'd hold something like that against you or harbor any ill feelings.  I'm thrilled for you!"

She was the first person I told that I was expecting twins (after my husband and son of course), and she was equally excited for me.  That's my "things people say" story, but not nearly as bad as yours! :)

  • People are really stupid. I lost my 11 month old daughter from (long story short) complications and kidney failure due to a congenital heart defect, and some idiot family member, upon telling them I was pregnant was twins, said "Oh good! There's two! There's that much more chance that at least one will survive!"

    Thanks, azzhole.

Oh my goodness. First, I'm so sorry for your loss. Second, I hope you throatpunched that idiot! People amaze me.

  • That's terrible! My boss outed me at someone else's baby shower and my coworker immediately blurted out "I was supposed to have a twin brother, But he didn't make it and died". These are just things people should keep to themselves.
  • Charming. I posted on my blog about two shitty things I heard in Sam's yesterday. So yeah, it kind of never ends.

  • When my MIL found out we were having twins she wasnt really happy for us at all. Flash forward a few weeks later someone that she works with told her about a vanishing twin that she heard about. Of course MIL comes over and tells me about it and starts freaking me out, which there were 2 strong healthy heartbeats at that point but Im a worrier. Then move ahead a few more weeks when we set up our anatomy ultrasound. Upon telling MIL when it was scheduled for she says to me, "I hope that there is....well, maybe there will only be one in there..." I was heartbroken...from my own MIL. Absolutely hurtful way to talk to your DIL about her babies and your future grandchildren. ::Mobile frown:: Everytime I think of what she said I get angry now.

I hear ya!  My MIL is negative towards me too.  I just smile to myself and remember, there's a dang good likelihood I'll far outlive her!!!

  • Ya, and I just remember that when the babies come, I will be too busy to visit her often or too tired for visitors. You dont have to be happy about it but dont ever wish one of my children away bc of vanishing twin or miscarriage...whatever. She wanted a boy and girl for genders...so the response we got when we said 2 boys was similar to the way my 4 year old reacted when she found out she wasnt getting a sister. The difference is my DD is 4 and my MIL is not. And of course when she found out the names we picked she had something to say about that as well. ...Sigh... All that matters is that Im thrilled beyond belief and cant wait to meet these boys...in a few more weeks though, hopefully. I want them to stay put as long as possible now. Haha
  • What? That is awful...I am so sorry you had to hear thaf. What an idiot!

Please tell that wretched, awful woman that if she ever says that again, you have a feeling she won't make it out of the door. OP, I am so sorry she spilled her crazy sauce on you.
