Work after birth of Twins

Hello everyone. This is my first post on this board, I am currently 14 weeks with Di/Di twins. I work 2 jobs and am very concerned to go back to work after these babies are born. I have already cut back my work load due to issues in the first trimester. I just want some advice of working moms that it is doable (or not). I also have a 5 year old son that will be in kindergarten this year. ANY advice is appreciated.

Re: Work after birth of Twins

  • I stopped working at 33 weeks, delivered at 37 weeks, and went back full time when my twins were 15 weeks old. I was very happy to go back to work, actually! I have a lot of paid sick/vacation time with my job, child-care in my home, and an easy commute. To me those are the keys to a smooth transition. I imagine juggling 2 jobs plus a son that needs to get out the door to school every morning would be pretty stressful, but it's good you are thinking about it now. Good luck!

  • I work 40 hours per week at a desk job. I stopped worked at 37 weeks, delivered at 38.4, and went back to work at 11 weeks post partum. I don't have an older child like you do, but I find working fulltime with twins to be incredibly doable, though I think a lot depends on the type of work you do. The boys are in daycare, so I see them in the evenings and on weekends and holidays. I do miss them, but honestly it's a huge break to get to hand them off to someone else and then focus on my career during the day.  I feel like a better mother because I'm so much more patient with them after getting this time to myself. I bow down to SAHM moms, because it's HARD. I think I have it easy being a working mom :)

  • Totally doable. Its challenging at times, but like PP said, I was also happy to go back just because I needed a break. Newborn twins are much more stressful that my job. I think its all about adjusting to a new schedule and getting into a routine.

My best advice is to get everything ready to go and prepared the night before.

Also, I have worked out my schedule so I can get home 30 minutes before I have to pick up the girls so I can get as many chores done as possible before they're home. It helps!
