Vegan

Anyone follow a vegan lifestyle? I am 5 months PP and have followed the Paleo diet to lose the baby weight. I stumbled upon 'Forks over Knives', which now has my husband and I considering going vegan. We are 28, and he is in good shape but already has borderline high cholesterol. Paleo is so opposite vegan, other than I already eat tons of veggies. What were your reasons for going vegan? Do you feel a difference in your health?

Re: Vegan

  • Thank you for your response. You are right in that the transition may be easy for me. I need to relearn how to cook where the star of the meal is not a peice of meat. Didn't get to check out the link you provided, will tonight. Thanks again!

  • I went vegan when DS1 was 3 months old. I lost 75 pounds following a whole foods plant based diet. It has been the best thing my husband and I have ever done. My DH has always been normal weight but had high blood pressure which he has completely cured. I have been vegan this whole pregnancy and have gained 1/2 the weight I did with my first. Giving up dairy was amazing in terms of how it changed my skin, digestion, energy levels, etc... I focus my diet on whole plant foods (fruits, veggies, beans, nuts, seeds, and intact grains). My DS also follows the plant based diet and he is thriving. All blood work for my entire family is great! Here are some of my favorite recipe sites (sorry not clicky from iPad) Ohsheglows.com Happyherbivore.com I also love Chloe Coscarelli though I modify a lot of her recipes to make them healthier. I recently got a book called 365 Vegan Smoothies that are all fabulous. I get lots of recipes online and I have the Forks Over Knives cookbook which is pretty good as well.
  • As far as reasons for going vegan, I had been vegetarian or semi vegetarian since I was about 14 for ethical reasons, but Watching Forks a over Knives was the catalyst for going completely vegan. I also had lots to think about when introducing solids to DS which made me do a lot of nutritional research.
  • Thanks for the recipe sites!
