excited and worried!

I'm happy to have found this board. I have no one in real life that can relate to being pregnant with twins. We just found out Wednesday at our sequential screening that we are having identical twins that share a placenta but have their own sac mono/di??. We have a 20 month baby girl. It's going to be a very busy house!

We are excited but also worried. My ob told me I will need to be monitored for ttts and that with my size I probably won't carry them passed 34 weeks. She told me to be prepared for them to be in the NICU. I'm so worried about their size because my daughter was born at 41 weeks at 5lbs 6oz. Any advice out encouragement would be appreciated. TIA

Re: excited and worried!

  • Hi welcome and good luck. I'm also pregnant with mono/di girls and 26 weeks. I was worried in the beginning but once you feel them moving you calm down alot. I am closely monitored for tts get ready for tons of Sonograms and pics. My drs are great and jus like you I am prepared but hoping they are not born early and have to go to NiCU I have a history of preterm labor. If you have any questions feel free to ask I also work as a Lpn in labor n delivery n part time in a obgyn practice. Now I'm in bed rest but feel free to know that everything should b ok. :
  • Congratulations and welcome! We have a two and a half year old son and almost two month old twin daughters. I was so prepared for life to be horribly crazy between the three of them, but it has actually been a lot better than I thought. We have been pleasantly surprised.

  • Welcome!! I'm 12 weeks with mono/di twins and it is very nerve wracking, but i'm trying to just take each day as it comes.  I'm expecting the twins to be born early, but hoping for at least 34 weeks as well, 36 if possible.  I think I read somewhere that 35 is average for mono/di?  Not sure about that though.  Hang in there and congratulations!

Congrats and welcome. I'm 28 weeks with mono di boys. Yes, there is potential for complications and you will need to advocate for yourself and be sure you're being monitored properly but many have a complication free pregnancy. Take good care of yourself, eat lots of protein and try to enjoy the pregnancy!

  • Congratulations!

Just try to stay as calm and relaxed as possible and take the time to take care of yourself.  My Mono/Di boys will be 7 months tomorrow.  I had a very uneventful pregnancy and delivered them at 34 weeks and 1 day and they were both just under 5lbs.  They spent two weeks in the NICU growing and feeding and are in perfect health today even a little on the chubby side. Big Smile

It's hard but try not to be afraid of the could happens and just take it day by day and enjoy having two little growing beans.
