Re: Books

  • It depends on what type of books you like to read. Some are more clinical and some are more emotional.

What I like to read best has been the online blogs and outlets. My two favorite are Stillstandingmag.com and Stillbirthday.com. They have links to a lot of blogs as well that are related to loss and hearing from the parents (both mothers and fathers) who have gone through it.

Stillstandingmag.com has been a blessing for me.

I read C.S. Lewis' "A Grief Observed"  He wrote it about the loss of his wife, but I think it's a great read for any loss.

  • I agree that stillstandingmag.com is a great source.  I also enjoyed the book, An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination by Elizabeth McCracken.

  • I echo "An Exact Replica of a Figment of my Imagination" by Elizabeth McCracken...it was so helpful and helped me put words to a lot of things I was feeling.

I am currently reading "I will carry you" by Angie Smith and I am also making my way through her blog https://angiesmithonline.com/.  Angie is a Christian and it is very religious...it has helped me immensely with my anger at God.  I literally cry on just about every other page of this book, it has been really helpful to me.

A lot of the loss mom's on this board have blogs linked to their siggy's and those have actually been one of my main things I have read through too...they are really good!

  • I like spiritual books...but I'm not christian. Books I've found helpful are "Growing Up in Heaven" by James Van Pragg and  "Our children Live On" I forgot who wrote that one...both are about after death communication. I echo what others said about still standing. Also...a new resource I was recently made aware of by other loss Moms...  A glow in the woods...a collection of blogs about loss. It's really amazing!
