We plan to start nap training next week and we need to make a routine change so that LO doesn't associate the boob to sleeping. I'm really dreading this change as I am not sure how LO is going to take it but in order to put her down drowsy yet awake we have to make this change.
It's going to take some adjusting for me to figure out how to roll with it because right now as soon as she shows sleepy cues I take her in and feed her and she goes down. If we plan to change the routine, do I feed her every time she wakes up from the nap? What if one nap is 30 min another 2 hours? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm trying to run it in my head and figure out what to expect and feel nervous about this change.
Re: XP: Going from Play, Eat, Sleep to Sleep, Eat, Play
I would wait for her hunger cues to eat.... Don't feed her because she is sleepy or because she just woke up; wait untIl she is hungry.
i feed my son when he is hungry. Occasionally he ends up eating right before a nap, but I do try to play with him a little before putting him down. Sometimes if his naps are shorter, he will take two naps between two feedings. Sometimes he eats, plays for a long time, takes a mega nap, and wakes up starving and fussing. Followyour child's cues and take her lead and you will be fine. If she does fall asleep while nursing, which is inevitably going to happen sometimes, gently wake her up a little before putting her down if you need to. It's good to move towards eat play sleep most of the time, but sometimes due to when she is hungry and when she is tired, it might not quite work out that way. Sometimes she might sleep, play, eat, play for a few minutes, sleep... Etc. try to be flexible and feed on demand!
