Possible to lose 40 lbs in two months?

DH just surprised me with a trip to Hawaii for our 5 year anniversary. I still have 20 lbs of baby weight to lose and then I would love to lose another 20 to get down to where I was pre wedding. Is that feasible?? I'm going to count calories, hit the gym as much as I can and drink tons of water.

 Any suggestions? Help?

I'm going to go with no. 1-2lbs per week is healthy, sustainable weight loss. Given you have about 9 weeks, 20 lbs would be the most I could imagine losing that quickly. But does it even matter? Hawaii is AWESOME, have a blast, who cares what you weigh? You are in paradise!

  • I would say no, unless you're a contestant on Extreme Weight Loss and obese to start out with. 20 lbs might be doable.

  • I have done 50+ in 3 months.  But that was 10+ years ago and some drastic lifestyle changes as well as major personal stuff going on.  Wasn't sustainable.

This exactly, plus losing weight that fast, if you're successful, you'll have a ton of loose jiggly skin.  It would look better in a bathing suit to just carry a little bit of extra weight.

  • I don't think it would be able to do in any sort of healthy manner...or unless you are morbidly obese.  In my experience, the max even going all out and completely busting my behind and being on a super strict diet would be about 10 lbs a month...and even that is very hard.

  • Even if you were at the gym all day long, you can only burn so many calories per day, eventually you'll start losing muscle.  Try a bit of cardio to burn calories and a bit of muscle building to tone up burn more calories naturally (1 pound of muscle is a whole lot smaller than 1 pound of fat, our church has a gym and had models you could hold, it was amazing what a difference).  Also the more lean muscle you have the more calories you body burns naturally.  Are you drinking enough water?  The more water you drink the more your body will let go of, you may be able to drop a couple of pounds in just excess water weight (don't limit your water intake, your body will just hold onto every ounce it can if you don't drink enough).   As far as actual weight I agree with everyone else, I think generally 2 pounds per week would be the most you could lose in a healthy way.

  • .....lose 40# in two months??  Not if you want to keep it off.
  • i dont think 40 lbs is possible. but 20 definitely is and 30 might be doable. Im a health and fitness coach and if you do things right, you might not really even need to lose more than 20. Since many people just want to see their muscle tone back, you can easily get the body you want in about 2-3 months time with the right diet and exercise, as long as you are not morbidly obese. If youd like, I can help you create a plan (for free) that can work with your schedule. If you are interested, email me at stephsmith7 at live dot com.
