Hi all,
Have posted before and responded but it has been awhile. Was extremely busy with work and kids and trying to get things ready to fly back to the states from china to have our little one so here's a reintroduction if you will. I'm 36 married to my best friend and expecting number six for me number ten in a blended family. I have had each child naturally the first was not by choice just didn't know I was in labor, the others I chose to and just have not looked back.
Any-who, have been following some of you on here and it has been great reading and commenting on some things. Funny thing is there are so many situations on here that I have been through that your comments and posts have been very helpful. No matter how many times I do this there seems to be something new that I can learn. So just wanted to thank you guys for that.
Just a quick note. I am thinking about getting a tubal ligation done after another hopefully smooth natural birth. I'm nervous about the anesthesia and or epidural. I've never had any pain meds other than codeine and I was allergic to that. I'm worried about have a bad reaction to either especially if I have a natural birth again. My hubby said he would get the vasectomy , but I kinda feel like I should get this too. This is the last baby for either of us. He has six girls, two with me and now we are having a boy. The girls are ecstatic about meeting their baby brother. Anyone have any suggestions or have at least had an epidural their last pregnancy? How long does it take for the effects to wear off? What's the recovery time. I'm 37 weeks and tw o days along. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks for listening. Please forgive the typos if any. Trying to get use to my iPad mini.
Re: Now able to post and participate more.
Hi! I'm new-ish around here. I'm 37 expecting #5 in Feb.
#1- DS, No epi, born at 35 weeks. Long story, but I found out I was really sensitive to some narcotics the dr had given me the week before while on magnesium to try and stop PTL.
#2-DD1, 7 years later;Induction, with epi administered about 4 cm. Great labor, experience. No narcotics. I recall the dr turned off the epi just before she was born, but it still lingered during the delivery. I was able to get up probably an hour or two after she was born and shower. No side effects from the epi. I was dizzy from not being allowed to eat all day and average blood loss from delivery.
#3-twins via unplanned c/s, I'd been given an epi with them around 5 cm and did not know (different hospital, not my doctor, but resident on call) that they'd piggy backed a narcotic with it and I was so loopy and restless. I was livid when I got my vision focused enough and could read the label on the bag on the drip pole. I threw up non-stop. I don't remember the name of the piggy back drug. That delivery was not pleasant. I've expressed to my new dr (we've moved yet again) that I do NOT want any narcotics since I seem to have a bad sensitivity to them and she agrees. (she is going to allow me to try for a VBAC as long as there are no complications.)
DH says he is going to get "broken" after this one is born. I will probably not go for the tubal, since I am anticipating a hysterectomy in a few years just due to other problems I've been having for a few years that are only getting worse. Every female relative on my mom's side has the same issues.
Good luck with your traveling and best wishes for a smooth delivery!
Thanks that helps. I don't respond we'll to drugs so I was worried I would have adverse side affects. Thinking I will let my hubby get fixed and that be the end unless I have to get a CS? Thanks for the info.
