GD 31wks and intro

Hi! I am a mom of 4, one Angel, and this is my 5th baby. We are all so happy! Due 9/21, so I am 31wks. Two wks ago I was diagnosed anemic. Started taking iron and modified my diet, but was still lightheaded and tired. Failed my 1hr GD test, which was not a surprise as that was consistent with past pg's, but I always passed the 3hr tests. this time I wasn't so sure I would pass the 3hr. I was right to trust my instincts. Failed the 3hr GD test.

So, I'm going to my mom's tomorrow, staying overnight. She was planning to feed me, for lack of better phrase, the same way my dad is supposed to eat. He has Type 2 diabetes. She kept saying it's more a matter of portion control. Nervous bc I keep seeing GD ladies talking about snacks before bed and such, and I think his is opposite. Nothing after a certain time of day. I have my GD education class on Tuesday but want to be proactive as I have a bridal shower to go to on Sunday and have no idea what will be available there.

Anyone know of a good and easy GD menu guide? I want to take something with me to my mom's, but there are a variety of resources. Looking for something simple to follow until I get my materials on Tuesday. And is it similar to a Type 2 diabetes diet?

TIA!

Basically, plan to have 3 meals and 3 snacks each day and try to wait 3 hours in between, not not more than 4. Try to pick healthy carbs that have fiber and eat them with protein.

My diet was 30 g Carb for breakfast at 6, 30 for snack at 9, 45 to 60 at lunch, another 15 at 3, 45 to 60 at dinner, and 15 for a 9 pm snack. It varies a lot from person to person but that should give you a rough idea.

Also, avoid milk and juice at breakfast.

Thank you so much! Is the 30g carbs at breakfast, regardless of how much fiber? My mom mentioned something about free carb points if the carb food has x amount of fiber.

My dietician only had me count carb and protein grams. She didn't say anything about fiber

that is exactly the diet I've been following (except I stay at 45-50 for lunch and dinner) and it's working for me.  my doctor didn't say anything about fiber and I still count the carbs in it if it has fiber.  there are free foods such as most veggies and protein so you can eat as much of those as you want.  you also do want to make sure you are eating carbs. don't cut them down too much.

  • my dietician said if there were over 5 grams of fiber, take 1/2 the fiber amount and subtract that many carbs (so if it had 6 grams of fiber, 10 carbs, I would count it as 7 carbs). Make sure you get plenty of protein- it helps keep the carbs you eat from spiking your sugar so high.
