Today's update...

Hello Ladies,

I thought to drop by and give you all an update on what happened today at the MFM. They did a biophysical and growth ultrasound and by God's grace both the babies passed the biophysical test with 8/8. Their breathing, movements, heartbeat everything seemed right on track. The only bad thing was their weight!!! I'm surprised because all this while they were weighing right on track. Baby A, girl, weighs 4 pounds and baby b, boy, weighs around 5 pounds. The MFM doctor said that they'll monitor me twice a week from now on and do biophysical ultrasounds during every visit. I feel terrible about it. It was shocking as well because I'm diabetic and usually babies end up being over weight. They plan to welcome these babies by 37w or maximum at 38w. However, I'm glad they didn't operate me last night and I still have sometime to cook these babies in my womb!

Any advices on how to make my twins gain weight in the womb would be helpful. It's really hard not to worry. I feel terrible as no matter what I do, I get to hear something bad. The doc also said that the twins might end up gaining an extra pound or two considering how far along I am, which is, 35w2d. What should I eat is another concern as I'm diabetic as well. Advices are always welcome. Thank you!

I always joke that my babies are made of nuts, cheese, and avocados.  Protein shakes too!  GD sucks - hang in there!

For 35 weekers those actually aren't bad weights?? Hope they can cook a while loner for you though...glad everything else looks good!

I was gonna say....that actually doesn't sound too bad! Also keep in mind that growth ultrasounds can be less reliable the closer you are to the end. On the day of my C-section, my babies were estimated to be around 5 1/2 lbs and 4 lbs....they were 6 1/2 and 5 lbs (35w4d). We were shocked that the u/s was off by a whole pound!

I'm glad to hear everything else is looking good...hang in there and keep cooking babies as long as you can!

  • My 34 weekers were 4.5 lbs at birth, so those weights sounds fine to me! Especially given that they are just an estimate. I agree with PP to increase your protein intake if you want to try to give them a little boost.

  • I agree with previous posters that those weights sound good for how far along you are. Mine were born at 37w weighing 4lb6oz and 5lbs. I'd suggest protein and more protein! Good luck you're doing great!

  • Phew! It's a relief to read what you all wrote. I don't know why the MFM doc and sonographer scared the hell out of me by asking and saying, "have your twins always measured on the lower side of the scale? Uhmm, because now they do. Your twins weigh very less. The girl is on 15 percentile while the boy on 22". I feel I can rely on you all more because you all have experienced so much and are the best people to turn to. Thank you so mommies. I'm feeling a lot better now. By the way, I've increased my protein intake starting today.

The way my. Doctor explained it you should. Expect the babies to slide down on the weight percentile scale as you get farther along. That is because the sicker babies who probably weighed less are born earlier and therefor not part of the comparison as you get farther along. What is most important is that they are gaining well when compared to your previous growth scan. I also agree that protein is your friend. :)
