Latent Labor

Really sucks. Those of you experiencing it as well will know what I am talking about. I didn't have this with my other 2. I mean I did have BH with my other 2 but not like this. All week I have been dealing with the contractions and Tuesday I was so uncomfortable in class I almost had to leave. They always pick up at night and make it hard for me to sleep because the bad ones often wake me up. Yesterday my contractions were 10 minutes apart the entire day but of course never progressed. And I swear every time I have a good contraction, I feel like I have to poo. I am happy baby is still baking but I am a bit miserable at this point. The crampy ache feeling that I have in my back and front of my stomach are just ugh!! 2 1/2 weeks til my due date. I am ready. Mocha I know you mentioned it earlier this week as well. My migraines are on overdrive now as well.

For the FTM's: Latent labor can last days or weeks and is early stages of labor when you contract but don't really progress in dilation. It is the stage before active labor when you hit 4 cm and things really start to move.

Re: Latent Labor

  • Ugh. I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable, but here's to hoping that when things pick up, they REALLY pick up and you have a quick, easy active labor

  • Sorry :( Mine isn't nearly as bad as yours sounds but I have been having more and more BH which I did not have with my first. I also have so pretty bad low back pain and have a feeling I may have some back labor with this one. Hang in there!

  • Ugh, I'm sorry.  I've had a lot more contractions lately too.. but not so bad that they keep me up. Just wayyyy more than I ever experienced in the weeks leading up to my first son's birth. Hope they die down a bit for you soon... or pick up and turn into the real thing. :-)
  • :( Sorry you're not feeling great. I'll keep you and LO in my t&p and hope that there's some bit of comfort for you the next few weeks!

  • I have been going through this for about a week. It's kinda nice to know I am not alone. My MW is not even sure I will make it to 38weeks I am crossing my fingers but the contractions have been ten times worse then with both the boys put together I don't see how I am going to get through the next four weeks. My contractions are every five to ten minutes with no progress when I was checked on Sunday. Haven't been checked since. I declined at my doctors appointment Tuesday just cause I didn't want the extra pain added to what I am already going through.

I hope you get some relief.

  • I had this with my last one starting around 38 weeks. I think I was up every other night timing contractions that lead to nowhere. Four weeks later I finally had a baby. So frustrating and exhausting.

I have no real help just try to rest when you can! Take it easy and delegate your have-tos as much as possible.

I have gotten to the point where I don't really time anymore. Yesterday I couldn't help but notice because they were so frequent.

  • I wonder if that's what's happening to me. While I have frequent contractions, mostly at night, they're not super painful.

Some of mine are just uncomfortable and some of them down right hurt. The ones that hurt have a habit of waking me up at night.

You me thinking too, last night I was getting sharp period cramps and back pain with the feeling of needing to poo. Could they just be BH? I had them ealry on and they were not painful just weird. Haven't gotten any since then.

Amarissa thanks for sharing your experience and I hope you feel better and good luck on your midterm! I can't imagine focusing on school right now especially with your contractions. You are a rockin mama!
  • Ugh! I'm so sorry to hear this. I've had the same thing a couple of nights this week and its miserable!

You will notice the difference. They will start and not go away. So I contract pretty much all day. It doesn't matter what I do, the contractions are there. Certain things I found do make them worse. But even with laying down and drinking water doesn't change the frequency of the contractions.

  • Thank you for posting this! I thought I was going crazy. The last two days things have kicked up, I don't know what I'm looking for other than the real obvious stuff, and they say don't go until things increase in intensity. Have had no idea what's going on. Hadn't heard this term. So appreciated!
  • I am experiencing a less severe version of this. Random, painful nightly contractions, headaches, some nausea from the cramping and an achy feeling in the abdominal area. I really hope my body is just getting ready for the big show.

I don't want to sound stupid, but I had no idea prodromal labor existed. I've only heard of BH and the real deal. That sucks!
