Success after IF

For those in daycare......

Talk to me about your first day.......

I just got home from a trial run for LO and it killed me. She seemed ok when we dropped her off but when we got back she was crying.... and crying hard...

So how did your LO's do on their first day? I plan on loading her up with comfort items to try and make it easier for her.... but just curious as to others feedback.

Re: For those in daycare......

  • It's usually much harder on us as the parents than it is for the baby, especially at her age. She will adjust pretty quickly and then she will get excited to go to daycare! The best thing you can do is give as much information to her teacher(s) about her routine with you so they have pointers on what she likes and when. She will do great! That first day was one of the hardest days of my life. And then the day I left his first daycare was just as hard because I loved his teachers so much, trusted them and they meant a lot to me.

    Good luck!

  • Oh no, that must've been hard!!!  I didn't have the same situation...Maybe it is because she started going to a daycare early (6 weeks).

I am sure she will get used to it eventually, but you can maybe try to feed her right before she goes there so that she is in a good mood?

Hope your LO handles it better soon!!

  • First day I did a trial run before going back to work I dropped my son off and cried all the way home. Went home took a nap then went back and got him a few hours later. He did fine, I think it was just a lot of stimulation with having other kids to look at. Ds goes to a home daycare. The only thing that was off in the beginning was his sleep but he soon got back to his normal schedule. I never sent any animals only a pacifier and his blanket/sheets for his bed and bottles.

Oh that first week is so hard! I got to the DC early and nursed her in her DC room for 10 minutes before work for the first few months. I think that made it easier on both of us. E did a lot of crying at first. Never when I dropped her off, just during the day. The DC workers agreed to hold and cuddle her more often until she was more comfortable. She would come home so exhausted that she would fall asleep in her bumbo during dinner. See:

But it got better really quickly. Now she loves it. She's really social and loves to play with her friends, the teachers, and quietly by herself.

Aw, I'm sorry it was a rough day! H has always done well so I'm not much help in that department. He was really exhausted the first week though. His schedule was nothing like it is at home and played a bunch. He hasn't gone full time all summer but I've dropped him off a few times and he still has fun and is wore out.

I hope it gets better and as LO gets used it, it should!
