Double stroller? Or not needed?

We have the Bob and it has been wonderful for my now 3 y/o. We don't use it as much but  because he walks everywhere, but it helps on days around the loop (a local jogging spot) and when I have to go anywhere around his nap time.
We are expecting a babe this December and I'm wondering if I should buy a double stroller? DS will be almost 4 then and I just don't think I'll need it but wasn't sure....

I would probably do a rider board for your oldest for long days over a true double.  If you plan to workout/jog with both kids then I could see needing a double but if not I would skip it.

  • Do you take trips to theme parks, zoos, etc?  Will your older LO get grumpy and tired and need somewhere to sit and rest? If so, then a double or at least a sit n stand might be a good idea.  If you aren't sure how much you will use it, maybe you can get a cheap used double before investing in something really nice.

Just play it by ear....try going without one and decide if you need it when the time comes!

  • I would probably not get one with a 4 year old.  Most 4 year olds that I know are perfectly able to walk around on their own.  I also see a lot of kids riding tandem in a single BOB by having the big kid sit in the footwell.  Without a harness, there's issues with safety there but a stroll on even terrain is probably fine.  I know there's some options for glider board attachments, but I'm not sure if there is one that works well with a  BOB.

  • For now I would pass. I think if he is walking now, in 6 months, he surely will. If when baby is here and its an issue, then I would look at a double option. You can always baby wear and big brother rides, a scooter board.

  • I would skip the double and look into a rider board. I think the britax one fits on the BOb.

  • I personally wouldn't get a double. My DD is 2 1/2 and I haven't used her stroller for over a year.  Once she started walking she wasn't going to ride in it anymore.  We have a Beco and will bring that if we go anywhere that would be too much walking for her, but she really doesn't like to be in that anymore either.  She would rather walk or ride on Daddy's shoulders.

  • I would not get a double, but wear baby in a carrier if the oldest needs a break and wants to sit in the stroller.
