Baby Names

Acelyn

Also found this name on babynames.com. It's American and means beautiful one. Most names like this will have no meaning and just say created name so I was happy to find it actually had a meaning. What do you guys think of it. My boyfriend loves it but I'm not 100 on it.

Re: Acelyn

  • It's NMS.  I've always thought that if you love a name, you should go with it; but I also think that both parents should love the name or at least no one should settle - I would think this over.  If you don't love it, explore other options.  GL!

  • Ive seen Aislyn, pronounced ICE-lyn. It wasnt really cute on the girl and ususally knowing the person makes it better.

ACE-lyn reminds me of a big lion in Narnia or heaven help her if anyone thinks it's pronounced -i-lynn.

  • I'm sorry but it is made up, created, etc. it does not have a real meaning, someone just made that one up.

  • What MJ said. I dislike when names have been messed with.

I really really dislike it for the following reasons:

    - Sounds made up...and just not pleasant

    - Looks like an American butchered the Gaelic name Aislin/Aisling (pronounced /ASH-lin/ or /ASH-ling/)

    - Looks like one of those "tack -lyn on anything make it sound sooo (not really) pretty

    - Just...no. I have yet to hear of a true "American" name that sounds better than...well...nope, can't think of one. Right along the lines of the "American" name Nevaeh.

  • Don't like it. Most real names do have meanings, it's the trendy, just created ones that don't have a meaning.

  • Unfortunately it's another dislike from me. NMS. But mentioned if to my partner who thinks its pretty. She is into trendy names like this. I think it's a matter of preference but to me, it does sound made up
  • "American" is not a language.  It's made up.

  • Really dislike this one sorry..  Seperately I don't care for Ace as a name or Lyn  and together they just look wrong to me.   I have no idea how its supposed to be pronounced either
  • Not a fan and I agree with pp that it looks made up.

  • I agree with whoever said "American" is not a language. This country has existed for 237 years, and unless the root is NATIVE American, all the languages spoken here are imported, including English. Even English doesn't have roots Ace- and -lyn that mean anything resembling "beautiful"

Therefore, babynames.com is full of sh!t and this name is really a made up name. Go with something else.  In fact, you should just take origin = American to mean origin = Made up sometime in the last 237 years.

  • To be completely honest, it sounds like a white trash name...

  • Dude I know you asked for opinions, but if YOU decide you like it then use it. It's not a harmful name or totally out there. I do agree it is a made up name, but if you and your SO like it then use it. When I see it I read Ace-lyn not As-lyn (Aislyn) from Chronicles of Narnia
  • Really, really terrible.

it definitely sounds made up....and not very pretty.

sorry...aislyn is beautiful though as an alternative

  • Ace is a masculine name part to me. I do like Aislin or Aisling though. Very romantic.
  • I don't like it at all

It sounds ridiculous. Do you live in America? Most likely yes, but have you ever heard "Acelyn" when referring to anything beautiful? Think about it. Thumbs up to the person that pointed out American is NOT a language.

    What MJ said, and this.

Google chrome won't let me make the vomit face, but that too. Sorry OP.

    Hate it, sorry
  • Looks like the masculine, Ace, mixed with the hugely popular LYN suffix. Ace could mean one, as in the card, but Lyn/Lynn means 'lake', unless you're getting there via Linda, in which case, it has roots in 'beautiful'.

But one slip up of pronunciation similar to the popular Evelyn and it sounds like A.s.s uh Lin.
