Bugaboo Donkey users?

Hi! We just found out we are expecting 2 and I am thinking about a stroller. We have the UB Vista but I have not heard good things about it as a double so figure we will end up with something new. I LOVE the Vista, especially the big basket, bassinet and ease of steering so want something g compatible. Any feedback on the Donkey? I will be using it frequently with one child and wasn't sure about the mono set up. I would like to find one that can be a single or double and is easy, functional and cute. I have read some online reviews but always get good feedback here. Thanks!

Re: Bugaboo Donkey users?

  • I am not sure about the donkey, but I do have the Mountain Buggy Duet which seems to have everything you are looking for also.  The only thing I don't like about it is it is heavy and bulky- not sure how the 2 compare in that regard.  It is only 25 inches wide  which is less than anything else out there(most doubles are 29).  Those few inches make a big difference in stores.  It does have a basket attachment that turns it into a single, but the frame remains the same (I think w/the donkey you can make the frame smaller?)  That being said, I hear nothing but raves about bugaboo in general, and if I could afford one, probably would go for that.  Also mbeans and pishposhbaby have stroller experts that you can talk to online that really help to find what is best for you.

It's a good stroller but the seats are on the small side and it's pretty cumbersome. What do you use your stroller for primarily?

  • Thanks for the feedback! I have not looked at the City Select so will check it out! We walk a lot, to the park, grocery store, out for coffee etc so I want something easy to push in stores and on city sidewalks, if such a thing exists! DD will be 22 months when the new baby comes. I also have about 10 steps leading to our front door and no garage, the downside to living in the city....so add lightweight and compact to my dream list!

  • The donkey is amazing. A-MAZE-ING. It is very easy to use in mono or duo mode. I've had a 4.5 year old in one while a 2 year old was in the other. This stroller has the best maneuverability out of any stroller out there - period. My good friend has the UV and I pushed it once for her while she was holding her daughter, and the Donkey's push is incomparable to the UV (which is supposedly a great push). The city select is nice but one of your kids is really far away, and the push on it is nothing compared to bugaboo. You can easily push two kids with one hand (if you're walking the dog in the other or on the phone, etc).

    Cons about the bugaboo:

    1. there is no peekaboo window, unless you get the Breezy sun canopy, which is totally cool and looks like a storm trooper, but only comes in white. Since you can very easily have your child face you, you don't need a peekaboo window until they are forward facing. You can always order custom ones though from sites like etsy.

    2. It's BIG. And not very light. If you're running in the city getting on and off buses and needing to have a compact stroller, this isn't for you. It's not difficult to fold, and you get used to it, but it's no city mini.

Other than those two issues, it is literally the best stroller out there. If the price is scaring you, look on craigs list!

  • We have it and LOVE it!!! We had a Chameleon and LOVED it. When we found out we were expecting again we bought the Donkey as we couldn't imagine leaving the brand. It is the thinnest side by side stroller on the market. I feel bad if 1 of our LOs had to be low to the ground so I like this option better. Giggle had their friends and family sale in early Nov and we got it 20% off. Unfotunately I had a m/c, but am pregnant again and can't wait to go from the mono to the duo mode when DS arrives in Nov. Bugaboo makes the most amazing products! You can't go wrong. They also came out with a new travel bag with wheels that makes traveling with your Donkey super doable and I LOVE the new Andy Warhol canopies they came out with!

Hmmm... I would think really hard about carrying a 35 lb stroller up those steps everyday.  The lightest double on the market is the Valco Snap Dual at only 22 lbs and its very compact. It's no Bugaboo but the push is really good and the tires are a nice size at 8 and 10 inches. I have and LOVE my BOB Duallie but I don't think I could do it if I didn't have a garage to keep it in.  Totally up to you but something to think about!
