My donor just tested positive for an infectious disease that can cause birth defects.  (Through no fault of her own -- it's CMV, one that most people get at some point in their lives, often through contact with little kids.)  I am so sad.  And numb.  Retrieval was going to be Thursday or Friday.  I feel like the gods must hate me -- I can't catch a break.  

 If this donor's schedule permits we may be able to cycle with her this fall (the active infection should clear within a few weeks).  But she's a busy student and lives in a different state, so I'm not sure if it will work out.  

I already have a cocktail in hand.  I can't even cry anymore.  :-(

I am so incredibly sorry!! This is just devastating news. I can't even imagine being so far into a cycle and getting this news. Why are they just getting these results back now? It seems like this should have been dealt with earlier.
Again, I'm so very sorry. I hope she agrees to cycle again. Take care

Hi, Km.  This test is apparently part of the infectious disease panel mandated by the FDA and it has to be done at or near the start of the cycle.  That's why the results are just coming in now.  I know, it's really late.  I was just starting to think it might work.  :-/

Oh Brooklyne...I am so sorry that you were this close to cycling only to have this happen. Big huge hugs. Nothing is easy with IF   Hang in there and this cycle will work...just a bit behind!

Oh you must be crushed! I would have downed a few cocktails by now - how totally disappointing (to say the least). I'm so, so sorry - I know they do all this to keep us safe, but it is still so hard when you're this far in.

I'm curious about the CMV - typically you test for that either positive or negative; and like 70% of people are positive - so does she have an active infection?? Once you are positive you always are. I'd want to know more for sure, but for now, hugs as you go through this.

Hi, 2Mamaz.  Yes, she tested positive for the active form.  Once her blood is showing antibodies rather than active form she will be eligible to donate again.  So it's basically just awful luck as to timing.

I can't tell you how sorry I am that the timing was so awful for all of this!!

I really do hope you are able to move forward with her once this is treated. Take extra good care of yourself and keep us updated!!!

This really sucks!!!  Please know that I am thinking of you-really sucks that now you have to wait until Fall.  I hope that your donor will work whatever necessary into her schedule to cycle with you on your time schedule in the Fall!!!!  I wish that you could catch a break, your journey has been long and you are definitely due for some good news.  Big ((((Hugs))))

Hi, BabyVDM. We can wait for this donor to be able to cycle again or use another donor. I would really like to use our original donor if she can cycle anytime fairly soon. There's another donor on my agency's roster whom I like a lot but I'm pretty attached to the other one, you know? I've been staring at her photo for months now!!

I can definitely relate to feeling committed to your 1st choice donor, so hopefully it will only be a short delay.

I'm so sorry! That is terrible news. I am hoping this is the last blow on this roller-coaster and things start going more smoothly. Maybe she has a long break over the holidays? Most students are out for 7 weeks between December and January. Hoping for the best!
