Pregnant after 35

To Do List?

I've seen similar posts on other sub-boards, but I figured that many of us are at different stages in life than a lot of other board members, and therefore have a different perspective.

So, I'm due "soon" and wondered if I'm leaving something important off my to-do list.

We've done the hospital tour, and have set up interviews with three pediatric practices.  We've also signed up for Infant Care, Infant CPR, and Breastfeeding classes (I'm not a first time mom, but my youngest is 18, so I definitely need a refresher).

The crib is set up.  The clothes and bedding are washed.

We have an appointment with a cleaning service to give us an estimate for regular service for the first few months after the baby is born. I've set up automatic bill payment for all of our routine household bills.

We haven't installed the car seat (yet) or taken maternity photos (something I wanted to do, but as I get farther along seems less and less important).

I have a ton of things in my Amazon cart, but I'm holding off because my co-workers have been dropping hints about an impending shower.  But, as some of you may recall from a previous post, I've been purchasing a lot of items from my own registry as they go on sale.  So, the only things that are still up in the air are the things I consider "nice to haves" but not necessities.

My daughter has volunteered to make and freeze meals for us as the due date gets a little closer, but other than that, I don't have or expect too much outside help.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?  Any Must Do's?

  • Review birth plan (treatments preference list) with OB/Midwife/MFM and have extra copies ready to distribute to clinicians when you are checked into your room for birth.

  • If you can still get it done, go ahead with the maternity photos, even if it's only one pose. I hate having my picture taken, especially when I'm not feeling well, and looking back, I'm bummed that I didn't get over myself and have any taken.

Also, go ahead and tentatively schedule newborn photos, as well. (Second verse, same as the first, with me) Nothing but blurry iPhone pictures from those first few weeks :/

If you can swing it closer to your due date sneek in some nice romantic dinners.  My hubby and I made a valiant effort to get out and have some final nice meals together before the baby came.  My due date with my 1st was Feb 18th so we went out for a nice dinner for Valentines day (something we never do) and then when my due date came and went we went out again for another nice dinner because we knew once the baby came we weren't getting out as easily since I would be exclusivly breast feeding coupled with taking an extended maternity leave money would be tight.  The rest works itself out. That is my only suggestion.

    Good Luck!

  • Do you have any pets? If so, have you prepared them for the arrival of baby? Many people don't think to do this. It helps them adjust if you introduce them to new routines and new sights/sounds/smells before you bring baby home. Especially if you have a dog. An unprepared dog can make life more stressful with barking and undesirable behavior.

  • You've gotten good suggestions. I'd only add making sure you get some self-pampering and "me" time in.  We've got everything on our list done and I'm really enjoying relaxing as much as I can now whenever possible.

  • I agree with pp. Get a pedi. My doc commented that mine looked nice:
  • Pack a hospital bag - make sure to include cell phone chargers (I always forget that one) and pillows because hospital pillows are awful.

    Good luck!
