    To everyone who is confused: this is a Gaelic name and Gaelic has different pronunciation rules.  Think about the names Sean and Seamus - they aren't pronounced like they are spelled either, but most people are familiar with them.  Ceilidh is just less well known.

  • Thanks ladies! I know I could have googled, but this was my choice of search engine ;) What better to ask a question about a name than a message board devoted to them.

    I never ever in a million years would have gotten kaylee...in my head I kept saying Seal-eed.  WAY OFF!

    This, but it is a type of social dancing, similar to American square dancing with a caller, live music, etc. I love to ceilidh, but it seems an odd name choice. Like naming your kid Foxtrot.
