Toddlers: 24 Months+

Potty Training - another ?

I know there are tons of potty training questions on here but I am going to throw another one out there.  My 24 month old has started to ask to sit on the potty and will pee and sometimes pass gas while on it.  We have had a potty around for about 6 months and she has never shown any interest in it.  She recently switched rooms at daycare to the older room that has the little toilets, etc, and I think seeing the other kids go has motivated her.  My question is, should we go whole hog and start potty training, get rid of the daytime diapers, or move to pull-ups, etc?  Or is this just a phase and she is still too young?  I don't want to rush her but I also don't want to pass up an opportunity to get rid of the diapers!

  • Everyone I've talked to says if the kid is showing interest go with it.  You aren't rushing her if she's asking to pee on the potty, and 2yrs old is not too young at all.

  • Most kids are ready by 22months. I would go for it, get rid of diapers go straight to undies. Pull-ups only sabotage potty training

  • Go for it!  2 is not too young, especially if she's already peeing sometimes.

As for pull-ups, I only use them if we are leaving the house.   I have two infants in tow too and just can't handle accidents at stores right now.  However, we still keep undies on underneath the pull up so he'll still feel wet.  Not as wet as the plastic pants allow, but damp.  So far he's done really well with trips out and stays dry.  You just have to time them between trips to the potty as much as possible.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • Thanks! I know how hard and confusing potty training can be, so I just had to put something together for the rest of the mommas struggling. I'm glad you found it helpful!
