Night Terrors?

My 18 month old lately almost every night will wake up at least once screaming bloody murder like she had a horrible nightmare and it takes me turning on mickey mouse club house on the tv to snap her out of it. I have twins and my other daughter does not do this so I was wondering if anyone else has experience this w/ their LO's and if they outgrew it or any tips that help?

Re: Night Terrors?

  • My son has been doing this for a while. His pediatrician suggested going into his room maybe 30 minutes to an hour before an episode typically starts and lightly disturbing him - not enough for him to actually wake up, but to move or shift in his sleep.

  • I don't know if DS is having night terrors per se, but for the last 2 weeks he has been crying multiple times a night. Sometimes he wakes up and sometimes he doesn't. This is a new thing for sure and I'm hoping it passes soon. DS is also 18 months old. I hear they go through a sleep regression around 18 months, so maybe this is part of it?

that's what I was thinking it could possibly be. It's just so odd it literally happens EVERY night atleast once or twice where she wakes up screaming so crazy from a 0 to 10 right away.  She's teething really really bad right now so I don't know if that's it as well. Hoping it ends soon. Poor thing.

  • Are you giving her medicine before bedtime for the teething? I know that certain medications trigger night terrors for me. They are normally ones with a sleep aide, but there have been a few others.
