bed sharing with # 2 on the way

I know it is still a little early to be worrying but DD is 11 months and LO#2 will be born when she is 19 months. She still sleeps with us and nurses full time. I have no idea what to do when the next baby gets here. Our bed is squished enough with just us 3. I feel bad but I honestly think it may be easier to get LO#2 in his or her own bed (like a co-sleeper) instead of moving DD#1. Would this make me a horrible Mom or should I spend the next 8 months getting DD#1 in her own bed so that LO#2 can have his or her time in the family bed?

Re: bed sharing with # 2 on the way

  • My first son was 15 months old, still nursing on demand and bed sharing when ds2 was born. We added a crib side car to our king size bed on my husbands side and that's where ds1 sleeps. He still wakes to nurse at least twice a night. Ds2 sleeps next to me.

  • We have a crib sidecar. DS1 sleeps between us, DS2 sleeps just next to me. He is like 90% in our bed snuggled right next to me, but the sidecar makes me feel less squished. DS1 does start the night in a floor bed in his own room, but he comes in with us when he wakes, usually about 12:30. While sleeping with two kids does mean more wake-ups from wiggles, etc. I think it has been incredibly helpful for meeting DS1's needs in the midst of having a new baby in the house.  It is amazing how touching while sleeping really does help refill that "attachment tank". My littles are 19-months apart, too. Smile
