LO pulling own hair

DD has been yanking on her hair over the past week. Today she was able to get a few clumps of hair out. I've been trying to figure out an antecedent, over tired, over stimulated, etc., but no dice. She doesn't have a whole lot of hair, so I would like to keep what's there in tact. Is this a behavior I just ignore?

Re: LO pulling own hair

  • I say yes. C does this when she is nursing or very sleepy. I have tried to stop her, but it just makes her angry. It seems to be something relaxing for her, however strange that may seem. So... I just let her go. Clumps come out here and there, but I figure it's okay.

Kate does this too. She doesn't pull hard enough to get clumps out, but she seems to be entertained by it.

For DD its when she is tired.

She also smacks herself in the head sometimes too when she is doing it, which is kind of funny.

This exactly for us.  It's pretty funny.  She'll get a bit and kind of twirl it, like an absentminded tired tic.

I still twirl my hair when I am tired. I have to be conscious of it at work.

I also make it into a loop between my index and thumb, and then put my finger though it....because its soft?

I am a weirdo...but habit I never got rid of from when I was little.

I'm a hair twirler too, big time. Playing with her hair didn't bother me so much as pulling it out. Hopefully that's just a stage!
