Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Question for EBP'ers

I'm going to start EP'ing in the next few weeks for my 6 month old. A few questions:

How did you start with the transition?

What is your pump schedule like (how often do you pump)?

My guy nurses every 2 hours at night (still, ugh!!), mostly for comfort I'm assuming since he's well into solids. Would it be best to start cutting out night time nursings and give him a bottle or should I bottle during the day first?

Thanks!

Re: Question for EBP'ers

  • I'd start the bottle during the day first. I pump and nurse. At night, I do a bottle when he goes to sleep so he doesn't start the comfort nursing cycle, but during the night I still nurse if he wakes. When I do pump, I pump whenever he would typically nurse, so about every 3 hrs during the day.
Sept 2013 started TTC#2 (never got PP period so hoping for the first egg to drop)
Jan 2014 - diagnosed POF (Premature Ovarian Failure) and told pregnancy not possible without egg donor because my ovaries would never function again with my hormone levels (FSH 136, LH 98.6, AMH <.03, estradiol 0, HCG 7) - using acupuncture, chiropractic care and TCM herbs / supplements
March 11, 2014 ovulated despite every doctors prognosis!!!
Oct 2014 hormones (FSH 48, Estradiol 89, HCG 1) not good, but heckuva lot better!

  • I've EP'd since the beginning. I try to pump every 4 hours, except at bedtime, then it goes to 7 hours.   DD mostly sttn, but on rare occassion will wake at 1:30. I always have 2 2 oz bottles next to the bed just in case.
  • I've been EP'ing since LO was 4 months (8.5 now) and I would pump during the day and still nurse for the MOTN feedings. Pumped 5x's during the day (every 4 hours) and then fed her during the night. Once she stopped the MOTN feedings, I didn't pump during the night, just as soon as I woke up. Now that she's 8 months I pump 4x's a day.
