Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How do you make extra money?

I am a teacher, I tutor after school during the year already. I also work for my dad when needed but would like something I can do after kids go to bed. Staying at home or another baby in daycare are not options for us... But we are ready for another baby. How do you make extra cash to help out? I've thought about Avon bc we lost our Seles lady recently but I don't know if money really is made? Suggestions?

  • I love baking so I make cake pops and cutout cookies and decorate them for baby/bridal showers and birthday parties.  I sell them on Etsy.  I also am starting a home health care job on the weekends that is at night.  I sold Thirty One which is the same idea as Avon and it's worth it if you have a continuos stream of parties/orders, but like in my case it was great in the beginning and I made a lot of money but then after a couple months everyone had enough of what they wanted and stopped ordering and it became very hard to book parties so I stopped doing it.

I am also a teacher. Have you thought about doing the website teacherspayteachers.com? Basically any lessons that you make up or worksheets or really anything you would use in your classroom, you post them and people buy them. I just started last week. No sales yet but I'm hopeful :)

I am also an avid couponer. Since I started a couple years ago I have saved a ton of money. I always check a couple of different websites before I go shopping that will match up the adds with coupons.

  • I'm a teacher too and have tutored forever. But my new love is "Tutor.com", I used to hate driving 20min to a home, tutor an hour, then another 20min home. A lot of wasted time. And with the baby I want to do it at home. Tutor.com let's me log in whenever I want for however long I want. So if LO won't go to bed ontime no biggie, no set time I have to tutor. Or if she wakes unexpectedly no issue. It's not a ton of money, but no cost to you (gas, etc), I try to tutor roughly one hour a night and make around $400 a month.

I also do Swagbucks.com, that's more brainless activities to get some free gift cards.

*another saving money tip, look into Hulu & Netflix. We do both (netflix for older shows, Hulu for current episodes) and spend a total of $16 a month, plus maybe 2-3 red box movies. So a month we spend $20 on tv, way cheaper than cable services through anywhere.

I have no intentions of having a second baby before we can afford it. I think that's selfish for the child. I'm trying to find ways to save up some extra to help when the time comes; thanks for the suggestions!

  • They always hire in the summer to get ready for the fall. It's really easy to use, you can use "voice" or not. I do not. So basically I type and draw on the whiteboard. It's a program you download to your computer. There are tutorials to teach you but it's really quick & easy. In the summer it's hard to get tons of hours, best bet is to sign up for hours ahead of time. Fall through spring though I never sign up and I get more than enough! T

hey are hiring, I don't know what your subject area is but this link lists what they are looking for. You can always add subjects after you're "in". GL and feel free to let me know you if you have further questions. You can list me as a referral too if you'd like, Ryan Jackson.

  • Question about tutor.com....I'm curious about the mock interview process.  What is it like?  Also, is a tutor tutoring students "live"?

  • I'm also a teacher and I also teach group exercise classes on the side. Pay varies regionally, but I get 30 to 40 an hour plus I save the cost of joining agym. GL!

Yes you're tutoring students live. Basically schools, military bases, libraries, and families hire us. Then the kids log on whenever they need help. Some sessions are quick if the student only has one question or just wants something checked. Others are longer for multiple questions. It is all "live chat".

The interview process is easy basically you set up a time to log on as you would once hired, but instead of getting a student you actually get a Mentor person from tutor.com. They ask you a question that would fall into your subject matter and you treat it like a regular tutoring session walking the student through. They judge not only you subject area knowledge but your professionalism and your ability to type at a reasonable pace. No sweat.

    Hope that helps!
