Trying to Get Pregnant

has anyone had a difficult IUD removal?

I am not sure where this should be posted on the bump, but I thought I would try here.

I got Mirena when my son was three months old. My dh could feel the strings, so I had them shortened.

I tried to have it removed in June but the doctor I saw could not see the strings.

I was referred to a GYN who could see it on u/s, but could not get it out.

So now I have to take Cytotec before my next apt in two weeks to see if that will soften and open my cervix a bit.

Has anyone been through this? I am super nervous but want to avoid surgical removal.

Thank You.

  • I have no experience with this, but did want to say that I'm keeping you in my thoughts! I can see why this situation would be a little scary...hopefully the Cervadril will work : Think positive :

  • Sorry you are going through this! This was my fear (my strings were pretty far up too), but thankfully my doc was able to get it using really small forceps. Really hope the Cytotec works and they can get it out!

  • I had to have mine removed via hysteroscopy due to the strings not being able to be located and it was really no big deal. It is an outpatient surgery and they did use general anesthesia, but the process itself took like 5 minutes, the prep work took longer obviously. My cycle immediately went back to normal (it was a copper IUD) after.

  • I had the mirena removed in March without a problem. Although, I did fear my OB would have an issue with it being taken out.

I do not have any advice, but luckily the pp had some experiences. I just wanted to say I understand your feelings and good luck to you.

  • I have had a hard time having them insert my two IUD's along with removal if I don't lay with my hands under my upper butt checks during the exam.  For some reason my cervix likes to tuck a little low and laying that way raises it up.  Other than that I haven't had any issues with my IUD going in (other than it hurts like a bi$ch) or the removal.

Good luck! Hopefully they can figure it out without too many more issues!
