Apple baby monitor

Has anyone purchased one of these? Does it eat your battery life on your iPhone? Pros and cons would be helpful. Thanks!!!!

Re: Apple baby monitor

  • I don't have one but the most common complaints I see are

-you have to either have a babysitter that has an iphone, or have an extra i-device at home, or you have to leave your phone with the babysitter

-you have to leave the app open (it can't just be running in the background)

I would instead recommend either an internet camera (Foscam gets recommended a lot) or a standard video monitor.  FWIW I don't see us retiring our video monitor any time in the next couple years (it will be great when we switch to a "big kid bed" so we know what she is up to), so the cost is relatively low when you consider how long it is useful.

  • We have philips isight.  but we also went out and bought a cheap ($10) traditional audio monitor.

was having trouble with internet/app, some times get booted off the network.  so not good for through the night usage. thats why we have the audio monitor.

we don't need to leave the app open and running al the time, we can leave it running and hear the whole time.

we don't used the video much yet, but its nice to be able to peek and check up on him from 2 floors away.

i'm not sure i would have spent the money on it, but it was a great gift, and im sure i'll like it more as he grows,

We got a wifi security camera (similar to the Foscam, just a different brand-about $60-$70). We also got a cheap audio monitor, like PP. we have an old iPhone that can stay home if we have a baby sitter, but you also can bring it up on a desktop or laptop computer. I feel like we got the benefits of an Apple labeled product without the pice tag and a back up plan, too.

  • We have and love the iBaby monitor. We have an iPad at home, so it's available to baby sitters when needed. And, contrary to pp,
you can leave the app running. mine runs all night next to my bed, while the phone is in sleep mode, and i can still hear our daughter. You can also buy additional cameras for subsequent children and run them both off of the app. I think it's worth it!
