FP Rock and Play question

Awhile ago, I read that a lot of you used a rock and play instead of a bassinet for your newborn before going to the crib. There seem to be a couple different knids - a bassinet one and one where the baby sits up at an angle instead of lying flat. If you used one and loved it, could you please post a link to the one that you have? I think I want to go with one of these - most likely the one where baby is up at an angle, but I want to be sure I am getting the right one that so many people recommend. Thanks!!

Maybe I mean rock and sleep - not play.  I have confused myself.

  • I've never heard of a Rock and Play or a Rock and Sleep. Do you mean a Pack and Play?? Some of those come with bassinet attachments. :/ If it is one of the others, I'm interested to hear the answers...

  • https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18165866 this is what I used with my last and wish I had it for my other two. I loved it and so did she.. She also never got a flat head from it since she wasn't in it 24/7 and I made her do tummy time. I never worried about her choking on her spit up or anything like that since it was at an angle, I get it for all my pregnant friends for their showers because I loved it so much!

i had never heard of it before i got my BFP, but now i hear about it all the time. it LOOKS convenient, but just wanted to know what the general consensus was.

  • It's called a rock N play. The bassinet one is relatively new, so I would guess that the majority of the people who used them on this board used the one that is slanted. We didn't use one, we just used the bouncer when she needed to be elevated, but I am considering getting one this time.

ETA: to add that this is the one we will most likely get. It matches our bouncer and cradle swing.

  • I didn't use one with DD but my SIL just gave us hers.  It's supposed to be great for babies with acid reflux (which DD had and it was horrendous) but I didn't want to spend the money on it back then and just propped up her pack-n-play.  Now that we have one, I will probably use it at least for naps, if not more frequently.

  • Perfect!!  Thank you all so much!  I was hoping that it was this one and not the bassinet type.  :)  Just wanted to be sure.

Yes - seeing the post that they are on sale is what reminded me to ask!  Thanks :)

  • We must all be thinking the same thing because I just spent quite a while reading about this thing. Many moms rave about it and the reviews are generally good, but I did read that some parents had concerns about it giving their babies flat spots on their heads and subsequently having to get very expensive helmets to correct the problem. Additionally, I've read that babies should be on a flat surface, free of soft stuff and blankets for SIDS reasons. I registered for the Graco Pack n' play with infant napper, and I hope to use the bassinet function for the first few months where the baby sleeps in the same room as us. It's pretty hard to sort through ALL the products out there!

ETA: I think the rock n' play (or sleep) and infant nappers/bouncers/swings are all fine for during the day shorter naps. I just worry about overnight.

I'm getting a RnP for this one, but have heard about flat spots with overuse too, so will probably just use it for hanging out in during the day for short periods, showers, etc. I think it will be super handy since it so portable.
