2nd Trimester

Harmony Test Results

Hello, I am interested in hearing from you ladies that have received your results from the harmony test.

I thought I was receiving the materniti21 but I just found out my OB switched me to the harmony test without my knowledge which kind of upsets me. I have already been waiting 10 days for the results and just learned I won't have the results back for another week which of course seems like forever when you're wondering rather your baby is healthy or not.

Of course my main concern and reason for doing it to test the trisomy genes so that matters most, but as a fringe benefit I was excited to learn the sex of my baby early based on these results also.

I was told they automatically give you the gender with mat21 but not with harmony. I did specifically tell dr. I wanted to know the sex as well, but I have little hope now they ordered it with this test. Has anyone automatically received the gender results with their harmony test results?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Re: Harmony Test Results

  • I had the MaterniT21 test done with this pregnancy as I found out when I was pregnant with my now 3 year old that she has down syndrome. The MaterniT21 test tests for all 3 Trisomies and sex chromosome disorders which is how you can find out the sex of the baby early. The Harmony test used to not test for sex chromosomes but I believe they have started to.

  • I did the Harmony test and specifically requested to know the sex of the baby when I received my paperwork and test kit. It's a completely different test # for the lab.

  • We also did the MaterniT21 and found out the sex at 13 weeks. My MFM gave us the choice between the two tests - I also think the M21 gives you a positive / negative result for trisomy / sex chromosome abnormalities and Harmony gives you a percentage? I could be wrong on that, but one reason we chose M21 was the "yes or no" result. Did your doctor say why they switched the test? I would also assume if he knew you wanted to know the sex that they would have checked the box. GL!

  • Thanks for your replies. I don't know why they switched it on me, I said I was fine paying $150 out of pocket for the mat21 over the free harmony on my insurance. I suppose they took the liberty of overriding my decision of what I was willing to pay for me....Grrr....

I think you're right about the percentages. I also preferred the mat21 because honestly I think I'd stress less about a positive and a negative over psychoanalyzing percentages and ratios. Who am I kidding? Either way we're going to stress! Guess I'm just frustrated my decision was took away from me.

Thanks again with your replies and good luck to each of you with your pregnancies!

  • For me, I think the gender information was automatically conducted with the Harmony test.  I had the bloodwork done, it took a little over 14 days, and I was given the results that I had a chance of less than 1 in 10,000 of my child having any of those tested chromosomal abnormalities.  Then the nurse 'asked' me if I wanted to know the gender (so I guess they ran the test for gender regardless), and I answered, 'of course!'.  Found out it is a boy, which was a bit of a shock (feeling a second girl, and getting excited for it), but now having to totally shift gears to everything 'boy'! :)

Well I'm crossing my fingers mine is the same on all accounts. I hv no sex preference, but the anticipation one way or other is killing me all around :

  • I had the Harmony test done on April 4, 2013, but was not given the option for gender.  My test results were less than 1 in 10,000 for all three trisomies.  It took about 18 calendar days to get my results.  Hopefully this works...I am attaching a picture of my results.

  • I did harmony and found out sex. I had to check a box saying i wanted to know but that is because they mail out the results so they obv don't want to share if you don't want to know. I'm sure your doc will know and tell you

  • I automatically received the results.  It was kind of funny, the doctor wasn't familiar with the test results, and handed me the results without realizing that the gender was on there.

I didn't even know that I could find out the sex until the nurse called me with results! I did not have to request it.

  • So I researched this and it appears that there are 3 different Harmony tests your doctor can order.  There is a Harmony test just for trisomy detection, a Harmony test with Y analysis, and a Harmony test with X,Y analysis.  The first one won't tell you gender but the other 2 tests should give you the gender with 99% accuracy.  Hope this helps!
  • The test they give you depends in the lab its sent to. They are both cfDNA tests.

I had the harmony, it took 2 weeks and they told me the sex without asking.
