Re:How are you and DH picking names?
Yup. Im being a post whore. I'm working on some depressing crap right now at work, and need to distract occasionally with some nondepressing crap.
How are you and DH formulating your lists? Baby books? Online searches? Family names? I know with my oldest, we literally looked through a book and wrote down names we liked. I didnt care about its meaning or origon.
Now with these last two babies (different father) hes all about having a gaelic scottish name because thats his history.

Are we married to the same man?
Boy's name is the same from when we were KU with DD so that is set in stone. However for a girl's name, it is significantly more difficult. DH had a named after we had DD and I hated it. He is still not giving up on it. He's like a dog with a fricking bone, regardless of how many times I tell him it is never ever going to happen (insert Taylor Swift song). I suggest numerous other names, he ignores me.
I am a big fan of Nymbler.com, which is like Pandora but with names. I did find some lovely options there. I have 3 I am considering at this point, but I am open to others.
The middle name must be a family name. Since DD's MN is after my family, I told DH he could have the MN after his. But since he doesn't like any of those names, there is a possibility it will revert back to a name on my tree. That is nice anyways since the kids get his last name to begin with. For my children, I do not want middle names without family meaning. I want family names. So I have looked in my tree and found 2 names I could use for a girl for a MN.
This is us exactly haha DH doesn't seem to get too baby crazy until about 35 weeks, but even then I had to force him to sit and focus on it lol
DH and I have had names picked out for years, all the names (including middle names) have family meaning. Whether it's the exact name of someone or a variation of it. First girl wil be named after me, and first boy will be named after DH and his dad. The names we have picked out for future children are from other family members and my heritage.
Exactly this!

This. We like very few girl names and are team green.
Our boy name was pretty easy to choose. Its a family name and actually has meaning for both of us. The middle name, I'm letting him choose, he was really excited about the name he found and I like it too so I'm just going with it.
Our girl name is a name I love. H like it too, not as much as me, but he doesn't hate it so for now it's on "the list." Middle name is my grandmothers name.

I love reading this thread! Nice distraction from my worry and a boring day at work!
We have agreed that for a boy his first name will be after a historical American person/figure (we are huge history buffs), unfortunately H is stuck on one I am not so sure of! Middle name will be H's first name
For a girl, I really like family names, we both lost a grandmother in the last year and liked both of their first names. Middle name will also be a family name (either after my mom or a living grandmother).

We have a strong Scandinavian heritage and that's the direction we're going with all the kid's names so it narrows it down significantly. After that, online searches and looking at the swedish and norwegian top name lists, behind the name.com, etc. to compile a list. Then we look at the meanings of the names, that's pretty important to us along with the cadence and how well it flows with DD's name. Then it's just a matter of feel I suppose, which one strikes us the most. We like names that are scandinavian, mean something that we like, are not too hard to say or spell, are unique, but not weird and not totally unheard of in the US, and go well with a family MN.
It takes a while
We wanted to pick a Scottish or Gaelic first name as a nod to our time here and since this is where LO will be born.
I think we reached a compromise...I love the name Iain and he loves the name Isla. Since he is okay with Iain and I am okay with Isla...I think we found our names.
As of now, if we have a boy it will be:
Iain Francis
and if we have a girl it will be:
Isla Judith

With DD we used family names, and actually had her first name picked before we talked about kids. We never agreed on a boys name. And we haven't really started talking about them yet either. I think DH is waiting until the a/s to find out which way we should look.
Poor second child, we were SO much more into things with DD at this point that we are now.
With #1, it was just a list of names that we heard and liked from various places. We settled on Carter on the way home from our anatomy scan. Easy peasey.
With #2, I loved the name Brynn since I was 11. I didn't care if DH liked it or not, I was naming my daughter Brynn one day. Luckily, DH loved the name so as soon as we found out she was a girl, it was set.
With #3, I was going to name DD Reid if she was a boy. I heard it somewhere and immediately fell in love with it. DH didn't like it as much, but I pulled the "vagina" card and won out.
Not sure about this baby yet. We were team green with #3 and our girl name was Emerson Mae. We will likely use it if we find out this baby is a girl, b/c I still think it sounds good with our sibset and girl names are a lot harder for us to come up with anyway. I have been searching names sites, etc for other options for both boys and girls however. We'll see. We're finding out this time so I'll wait until we know for sure before really diving in.
Carter Robert 7.18.08 | Brynn Sophia 5.24.10 | Reid Joseph 9.10.12 | Emerson Mae 1.27.14
thanks! Awww...stinks that you got shot down though!

First names are just names we like. Middle names are family names.
I make a list of names I like, usually found on the Internet, and DH crosses out all the ones he doesn't like. This baby's middle name will be the same as mine if its a girl and DH's if its a boy.
I text my husband names throughout the day. If he doesn't respond I know he hates it. If there's a name I really like I just keep throwing it into texts until he is familiar with it
We are team green, but our choice for boy name is pretty set, it is my maiden name. We haven't come up with a middle name, that's been a challenge. Our two girls have names starting with vowels, Ava and Elle. Wasn't planned but now part of me wants to name an additional girl a name starting with an I. I kinda like Isla but it is a very popular name right now (yeah, like Ava isn't, right?!)
I love Isla and it fits so well with your girls names! It Isabella, that's pretty too!
We actually just decided our names on Sunday. I started by saying my favorites and he actually liked one of my girl ones. The boy names were a little harder. I ended up just opening a website and going down the list asking him if he liked a name. Then when he did say he liked one every time he said he liked another I would say do you like it better than the original one he liked. The middle name of the girl was already decided, it will be Marie my middle name and my SIL middle name. The boy middle name is a family name, my fathers name actually.
Our names are
Boy: Lucas Anthony
Girl: Brooke Marie
