Who's still breast feeding?

Lucas and I are 14 moths in, I finally found he can drink coconut milk with out throwing up like wcm makes him. But he still loves bfing and most times I do too, the best is if I don't want to or it's a bad time I can give him a cup and snack instead. I find it fun now how some times he doesn't want to cuddle in the cradle position but sit on my lap and turn his head toward my boob and nurse, those times his devilish little smile comes out its so cute!! I love that I have only gotten positive comments from everyone so far, although dh likes to remind me that we have to stop some day. I find I am in awe of my boobs that I can nurse on demand and they still produce. Some days it's only three times some days it's like his a newborn and he wants to nurse ever two or three hours!

How are you guys doing?
Any thing fun you've noticed bfing a toddler?
How have people reacted?

  • We are still nursing once a day but I plan to finally wean him this week. I thought I would be fine but I am a little sad.

We still breastfeed! Our situation sounds just like yours. For the most part she still likes to nurse more than regular food. I plan to start weaning next month. I want her to be completely off or at the most just nursing to sleep by the time she's 20 months when we go on vacation. I'm starting next month because I know it's going to take both of us a long time to get used to it. I'm a little sad about it, I love just being able to feed her quick and easy but it does have to end sometime.

People think it's amazing we've been able to go this long. I'm pretty proud of myself too. At the beginning I remember thinking I wasn't going to be able to handle it and as soon as I could I would stop. Just like your LO my daughter likes to sit on my lap and turn her head to nurse. Sometimes she likes to try to take the breast with her to play... ouch! We still BF pretty often, I would say every 3-4 hours even with solid food in the mix.

    Congrats to all of us!

  •  How are you guys doing? - Great!
Any thing fun you've noticed bfing a toddler? - Man is she wiggly. I get a foot in the face often. I also love the face she gives me when she wants to nurse. She will pull at my shirt and raise her eyebrows and give me such a cute pleading face.
How have people reacted? - Pretty well overall. My Pedi surprised me. She didn't seem that breast feeding friendly in the beginning but when I told her I was still going she was extremely supportive and positive. My best friend and a coworker make comments on occasion but I ignore them.
How often are you bfing?' - Three times a day normally. I love the morning session the best when we cuddle in bed together. It is such a great way to start the day.

  • We still nurse at minimum every 2-3 hours. When she is sick or tired its more often. This week it has been incredibly hot and humid so she has been nursing very often. Sometimes it's frustrating but I feel it's worth it. She will drink WCM out of a cup but she doesn't see it as an alternative to nursing, just an alternative to water. I find it entertaining to watch her squirm, stand, wiggle, etc while nursing. She rarely will just sit still and nurse. We still nurse in public but we haven't gotten any comments yet. DD is tall for her age and wears 24 months clothes so I'm expecting a comment soon since she looks older than she is. Both sets of grandparents have asked when we will wean and if she takes a bottle yet but I'm not introducing at bottle at this point and we will wean when she is ready or I am, whichever comes first. She is my one and only so I plan on nursing as long as possible and enjoying it. I'd like it if I had more free time but I figure it won't be long before I'll be wishing we had more cuddle time.

    Awesome!

It's some of our best cuddle time (he's really independent otherwise). It's also so easy! He just nurses, I don't have to position him or hold him in any particular way, and when he's done he delatches and pulls my shirt down. So cute!
I also love how I can make the nursing sign or ask him if he wants to nurse at the end of the night and he'll get this extremely happy grin on his face and walk over to our nursing spot. He sometimes asks to nurse by pointing at my chest and saying "nuh"? when it's close to bedtime. It's so cute!

I was disappointed by our pediatrician who indicated she thought I was nursing for my own benefit and not for the little guy's. He's a toddler with hands and teeth, believe me, it'd be impossible to nurse him if he didn't want to. When I said my plan was to drop from the current 4 nursings to 2 nursings and keep it at that until 2 years, her response was that she wanted me to wean him sooner.
My grandfather made some cracks asking if I was going to nurse him until college and follow him there. My grandmother told him he was being insensitive and rude. We don't nurse in public anymore since we only nurse first thing in the morning and last thing before bed so most people aren't even aware that we still are.
    How often are you bfing?
Just twice a day, first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. The morning one is nice because it's at 5am and he'll go back to sleep for a few more hours afterwards. And the evening one calms him down so we can start our bedtime routine.
  • I had gotten down to 3 times a day, just for naps and bedtimes, but when he started signing he would sign for milk in the mornings so i re-added that session.  Now it seems he is moving to one nap only so I only nurse for naptime and so far have not had to NIP in a long time.

He may change some procedure so that coworker is no longer allowed to purchase things on his company credit card, or something like that.

How in the world does this not get a person fired, assuming it turns out to be true?

they are going to terminate him. My boss came in my office at the end of the day to reiterate that I did the right thing and that they are going to do some more research on everything, try and figure out the full extent of it, and then terminate him.

Oh good. Well, not a good situation overall, but YKWIM, right? I'm glad your boss has been thankful and promised to keep it confidential.

It really sucks that you were put in this situation, but you did the right thing.

  • Really glad to hear you went to your boss and he was grateful for you providing the info. I hope they're able to get the rest of the information they need to sack the guy.

    Good job!!
