Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 month wakeful question

So I'm pretty sure I'm just starting the dreaded 4 month wakeful.

My usually really good sleeper has started waking up 2 or 3 times a night screaming bloody murder.

Question- do you feed them every time they wake? I know he can go 6-8 hours before he needs to eat, so is he just upset or should I be feeding him every time? He eats 5-6oz bottles so wouldn't that be way too much during the night? And I don't want him to start thinking he should take in all his calories at night and start taking less during the day.

He won't take a paci so that doesn't help to soothe him at all and I EP so I can't give him a boob for comfort either.

Help. This is horrible and to make things worse were going on a mini vacation Thursday-Sunday although it doesn't seem to be shaking up to be very vacation like for me!

Is he taking in the same amount during the day as usual?  A lot of babies in this period are too busy to eat during the day so they wake up legitimately hungry...in which case I would feed.  If baby is still taking full feeds all day then you can try to calm in other ways...but personally I don't think there is nay harm in feeding in middle of night...it will calm baby and get them to sleep quicker (bonus for you). You may find he only wants a small feed.

Good luck on the vacation...we travel in 3 weeks I just assume from the get go that the whole routine will be thrown off and baby will be up more at night so I don't think this will make much difference!!
