Dining chair options?

What does your LO sit in at the dining table?  I'm kind of at my whits end with my 24 month old twins.  In the past month they have decided they don't like any of our current options...

- The old highchairs (basic ikea antilop) are a major no and have been for a long time (major screaming as soon as we get near them).  And they stand in them now even when buckled in.
- Our space saver high chairs, used as boosters attached to our dining room tables, as well as our travel boosters cause them to push back from the table and I'm afraid they'll tip and hit their heads.  They also start to kick and arch as soon as we try to put them in a booster now.
- I've tried putting a kids table and chair set next to the big table but they get up and run around as soon as we sit down.
- I've considered splurging on the stoke chairs but we use those in restaurants and they never want to sit in them.

They generally end up sitting in a regular chair but they can barely see over the top of the table and they're up and down so many times during a meal that I start to lose my mind.  And they're just not eating as much this way because they are so distracted.  Family dinners are really important to us and I don't want meals to become a battle or unpleasant experience.  However I feel strongly against just letting them graze anywhere they want.  They're not terribly verbal yet so negotiations and/or bribes are a way off.

Re: Dining chair options?

  • We just have our LO sit in a normal chair.  He enjoys that and when he is done he does want to get up and play so we let him.
