I just came from my doctor and was told I have a 3.2 NT result and along with being 35 I have a higher risk for downs. We have decided to schedule an amnio, but I'm freaking out! Has anyone else gone through the same thing? I'm so scared.
I screened positive for Downs but not neural tube defects, I'm sorry you have to go through this stress. For me they scheduled a level 2 ultrasound before jumping to amnio. Everything looked great in my scan so they didn't recommend further testing. I imagine some of the other ladies will have some advice regarding amnio vs other testing you could request. I'm not familiar with the recommended course of action when you screen positive for other things. Good luck, I will keep you in my thoughts!
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.
I had a similar result when pregnant with DS 2.5 years ago.
I decided to proceed with an amnio at 17w, 3d. The procedure itself was NOT as bad as I had imagined it would be. The worst part was what I did to myself psychologically with my anxiety in the weekseading up to the amnio.
I didn't experience discomfort or complications and DS was fine.
Having said that, with the newer blood test available (have you had the MaterniT21/Harmony? Of not, I would recommend speaking to your dr. about it), having a good reult from it and much better NT #s with this pregnancy, I may skip an amnio.
It is scary to see the risk number hen it's not as you had hoped. Talk to your doctor some more about non-invasive options, about the amnio itself, talk to the ladies here
Be comfortable with whatever your ultimate decision is.
I'm sorry that you got uncertain results back. Is there any way they can do a non-invasive test like the MaterniT21 or Harmony test before going to the amnio?
