DD? re: trouble finding heartbeat/requesting new sonogram

Here was my response:

You have to feel comfortable with your doctor.  However, if I remember from your original post, you had just had an NT scan a couple of days before.  So I probably would not have made the big deal you did.

Your doctor should have explained to you that this early it would be very likely that she would not hear the hearbeats with a doppler.  My doctor would not even attempt at 13 weeks as this would just cause a mom-to-be worry.  So I agree that you were not provided with the best, most compassionate care.

Are you seeing an MFM or high risk OB?  If not, then I would transfer my care to one.  However, if your doc is an MFM or high risk OB, I would just have a frank conversation with her.  Tell her you were worried after the last appointment and didn't feel like your concerns were addressed, but you would like to move forward as long as she can fully explain to you everything that she's doing.

FWIW, if your doctor found the heartbeats, but you were not pleased at the length or time you got to hear them (1) you are being too sensitive and demanding and (2) it is your burden to ask her there and then to let you listen again and explain to you why it took a long time.  The mature method is never to leave the office and then have a hissy fit afterwards.  It is not fair to the doctor.

Good luck on your sonogram!
