Can anyone review Horizons for me?

Planning our preschool curriculum for next year, and I'm looking into Horizons from Alpha Omega. Can anyone provide any insight into it? FWIW, I'm very Type A, so I really like to be organized, and don't want to feel like I'm floundering through the first year. Thanks!

Re: Can anyone review Horizons for me?

  • I think Horizons is a great program overall.  We continue to use their Math for all of our grades (we've done it K-5th so far).  I feel it's pretty straight forward, and I'm a very organized person too :)

I think their phonics & reading program is a lot to take..  My Kindergartner did better with Explode the Code for phonics/spelling and learned to read just fine without the reader books..  My 1st grader did okay with it, but she loves "school work"..  We're sticking with Explode the Code for our phonics/spelling work.  All that said, I think even their phonics & reading curriculum is great, it just depends on your kids.. If they like to do a lot of writing/workbook work then it will be perfect!
  • We used Horizons for one year.  There wasn't really anything "wrong" with it, it just wasn't a good fit for us.  We have since switched to MathUSee, which we absolutely love.
