What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? This isn't exactly new but he loves stacking his cups into towers right now, and I am so impressed with his dexterity.  I'm mostly proud that we finally transitioned out his morning bottle into a sippy cup, which granted, I still have to hold for him, but at least he takes his straw cups during the daytime hours no problem.  He also is able to climb onto furniture now!

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)  I posted about this yesterday, but we still aren't walking or saying much.  Also starting to have a lot of tantrums...I think it's frustration out of not being able to walk; they usually start when he's trying to crawl with his hands full.  Also, I wish we could just get him to take his own sippy or straw cup in the morning but getting him off the bottle was hard enough.  So he still only takes the sippy if he sits in our lap and we hold him.  I guess one step at a time?

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?  He recently learned that when he throws food on the floor, the dogs will come and get it, so now he throws it on the floor and when the dogs come over he reaches over the side of his highchair as low as he can reach and laughs and tries to pet them.

QOTW: What's your favorite summer activity right now with your toddler? Since it took SO LONG for summer to arrive in MN, I'm soaking up every minute. Tell us what you are loving! Going to the zoo!

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

DD started walking about a month ago and has REALLY been working on language now.  She says about 25 words (not super clearly, but as the mom, I definitely understand what she means)

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

I am trying to decide if she has some type of allergy with food and/or environment, but no real major challenges.  She can be an inconsistent sleeper where she either STTN perfectly or is up once and we bring her into our bed.  Both work for me, so I just let it ride and play each night by ear.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

She has learned to walk backwards and gets this light in her eyes and smiles when she does it and I ask, "where are you going?!?!!"  it is so cute!

QOTW: What's your favorite summer activity right now with your toddler? Since it took SO LONG for summer to arrive in MN, I'm soaking up every minute. Tell us what you are loving!

I love watching her look at animals at the zoo or play with her water table. I am in WI, so I have a similar experience to you in MN :)

DD is 18 months so I'm def in!

Her new thing and my challenge is the same.  My toddler is into everything water.  The ocean, the bath tub, the toilet, the cat's water dish...she likes to dunk her head and put her face in the water and it scares the crap out of me.  The child has no fear.

The funniest thing my toddler has done recently is tell me to "Stop!"  I had to work hard not to laugh because it so caught me off guard.  Luckily, my mean mommy face seams to have done the trick because she hasn't said it again.

Summer activity with the toddler is running in the sprinkler and going to the beach.  She could spend all day in the yard with the water knocking her in the face.

  • Hi there!! I definitely want to join in : )

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? I would just say the constant need to be independent - he wants to do EVERYTHING without help. I'm having a hard time letting go. LOL.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.) While I feel like DS is generally well-behaved, he still struggles with listening. There are so many times I tell him "No" or try to redirect him and he will go back to doing that same thing again and again, to no avail. We have had a couple incidents very recently where he has tried to run out in the street (one time I caught him, one time I didn't but THANK GOD there were no cars coming). It terrifies me when he does that and I'm not sure of the best way to handle it to get him to quit doing it.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? He says funny things all the time, I really should start writing them down b/c I know I will forget them.

QOTW: What's your favorite summer activity right now with your toddler? Since it took SO LONG for summer to arrive in MN, I'm soaking up every minute. Tell us what you are loving! It took forever for summer to arrive here too and that is NOT normal for the south! We are definitely loving the water play - we go to the pool, we wash our cars and DS "helps", he has a water table that he loves, we turn on the sprinkler. Anything and everything water-related, he loves!

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

DS is 21 months, and has at long last discovered climbing...on everything...and that makes me a little nuts.  He can get into precarious spots in second flat!  Also he has finally figured out how to stack up Duplo blocks (like big Legos).  He didn't "get it" till the last few days - he kept trying to balance them on top of each other like regular blocks.  He is also in a super independent streak.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

Working with our food sensitivities/allergies is always a challenge.  He is still a crappy eater, which makes things stressful (at least for DH and I).  He can't eat more than a tiny amount of dairy, and getting protein, fats and calories into him is a challenge.  If carbs were enough nutrition, we'd be golden.  :)

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

He started giving the dog her treats (with DH's help) after her walks, and after he does it he runs through the house yelling "TEEEEEEEEET!" at the top of his lungs with his arms over his head and a manaical grin on his face.  Pretty funny.

QOTW: What's your favorite summer activity right now with your toddler? Since it took SO LONG for summer to arrive in MN, I'm soaking up every minute. Tell us what you are loving!

We've been to the zoo three times, and he loves the park and splashing in the kiddie pool we got him (but he wont sit in it - just squats and splashes).  Since DH and I both work full time, our "family" activities are limited to the weekends (boo).  DS also goes to the botanic gardens and on long walks with the nanny during the week - he is exhausted most nights from all the outdoor fun!

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? Lucas really likes drumming...with anything...markers, toys, whatever he just likes hitting things in rhythm! And he also is starting to figure out coloring/drawing :-)

What challenges are you currently facing? Sometimes when we say ?no? he thinks it?s a game and laughs and then does whatever we?re telling him not to do anyways. We just try to distract him and/or remove him from that situation since I think he?s still a little young for any type of real discipline...

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? He likes to repeat words sometimes and his cousin got him saying ?ay yay yay yay yay? Too cute!

QOTW: What's your favorite summer activity right now with your toddler? Well, since everyday its usually 110 or higher, we don?t do much outside at all! Just playing inside, he loves throwing/kicking balls around :-)

  • Hi All,

I've got a 21 month old, so I'm in on this one!

What's he really into?  He's starting to really 'get' climbing...much to my chagrin.  For now it's in and out of his wagon and onto furniture.  I'm keeping my fx that it doesn't morph into climbing out of his crib.  He's also making more sounds and making huge strides with the stuff I'm working with him on (see challenges).

Challenges? He's been diagnosed as having several delays, most notably speech, and has been labeled as 'at risk' for autism.  We're in the midst of evaluations, had speech eval today actually, and starting to get EI involved.  He's making good progress with the things they told me to work on, which is good, but it's been a hard road and I'm just getting started on it.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? Still not talking much at all.  He did run up to the door when his daddy got home the other day and say an emphatic "Haa" (Hi).  That was huge for him.

QOTW: What's your favorite summer activity right now with your toddler?

He loves all things water...especially the sprinkler and 'helping' me water the plants out back (aka splashing in the hose spray intended for the plants)

  • Freakin A!! I just responded and then TB ate it! Now I see the new format. Argh!

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? She is obsessed with watching Ni Hao Kai-Lan. Totally my fault because I wanted her (and me) to learn some Chinese. New accomplishment is that she now knows how to count from 1-10 in Chinese.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.) It isn't really toddler related but we pulled her out of daycare for the month and I am now a temporary SAHM. Holy moly, it is hard! I always knew it was but I am constantly racking my mind trying to think of activities to keep her engaged.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? DD rarely says hi but today she said "hola" to the lady that was cleaning the elevator. So random!

QOTW: What's your favorite summer activity right now with your toddler? Since it took SO LONG for summer to arrive in MN, I'm soaking up every minute. Tell us what you are loving! It has been unusually hot for the westside of LA lately so we haven't been out much. However, this past weekend, DH and I took her to a local park and she had a blast running around. I hope to do that more if the weather cools off a little.

Have you tried saying "Freeze" instead of stop? It gives them something they can do as opposed to not do. Also, when I just say stop, she looks at me confused as if she doesn't know what action she is supposed to stop.

I am trying this with DD when she starts to take off. We started off practicing her doing something and then saying "freeze" and I would freeze. It took a while for her to completely stop right when I say it and it isn't 100% but we're getting there.
