Ftm and freaked.

Baby beckett was born early at 33 wks 5 days and is now 4 weeks old. We've been home for about a week now and I've been kind of worried this whole time. I'm breastfeeding and supplementing my milk 4 bottles a day with 24 cal formula and then pumping after I give him those bottles. First of all I'm concerned because he won't eat without throwing up. His dr said we will just wait and see if its reflux. But I'm worried about him getting enough milk. Second, my milk supply while he was in the nicu was awesome. But now it is decreasing. One side doesn't even get full like the other. It's visible to me when I look in the mirror. Is it possible for me to bring my supply back up to what it was in the nicu? I can't stop worrying about everything.

Re: Ftm and freaked.

  • I am no expert but my DD was born at 33 weeks 4 days and is now 6 weeks old.  She barely goes a meal without spitting up or projectile vomiting.  But we live in Germany and here, there's a saying that basically says a baby who spits up is a baby who is flourishing.  The pediatrician explained that the esophagus is not closed all the way and isn't very strong so whenever the stomach is full... up comes the milk.  And from what I've read, every baby has some form of reflux.  It's only a problem when the baby doesn't eat or isn't gaining weight.  My DD wants to eat more as soon as she's done spitting up.

As for BF, I had very little supply when we were in the NICU.  But when we got her home, we immediately BF exclusively. And it worked!  I think we were partially lucky but it's also supply and demand.  You might want to consider decreasing the formula supplements and see what happens.  Have you spoken to a consultant?
