Babies: 6 - 9 Months

How much solids are you feeding BF LO

How much are you feeding your LO? I'm wondering if LO is eating too much or just enough or not enough. I realize that BM is still their #1 source of nutrition. Just wanna see what others are doing. Thnx!

  • Good question! I've been wondering the same. We started the week before six months so its only been a few weeks.

Right now he has breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is one veggie or fruit (ice cube size) mixed with about 1tbs of oatmeal and BM. Dinner is 2 cubes (veggies and fruit)

He nurses at 7, 11, 3, 7, and 2am (roughly) sometimes with a second wake up between 4-5.

  • Sounds fine. We do BLW and BM. Dd normally eats one meal with us, though occasionally she has fruit for a snack with DD1. Only now, at 8 months, has she started to consume any of it. DD also nurses a lot during the day. At least 6 times.

  • DD started solids about 2.5 weeks ago.

She gets 1 cube of a fruit or vegetable in the morning of whatever new item we're trying

1 cube of something different that she's already been exposed to at night

I want to make sure BM is her main source of nutrition so I'm sure she would eat more solids if I offered but I want to go slow.

  • If you wanna be certain that your baby eats enough and healthy you should use this: https://earlystart.me  Request an invite and they?ll give you instant access to the app by e-mail. It helped me a lot during the first months after introducing solids, it tells you exactly the amounts that your baby has to eat(milk+solids). Maybe it gives you some inspiration!

  • DS eats about 30 ounces in 24 hours and eats breakfast and dinner with us. We do BLW.

  • We started out giving DS 1 jar about a hour and a half before his bedtime meal. Now we are giving him 2/3 jars and milk for his second meal.

Starting this week we are going to start giving a variety of solids for each meal.

This is the meal plan I have written out but remember my DS is almost 8 months so there's a little more solids.

    1st meal

    Breast Milk

    3 crackers

    small pieces of cheese

    2nd meal

    Breast Milk

    1/2 a tortilla

pureed veggies or cooked green beans

    3rd Meal

    Breast Milk

    2 tbsp. banana

    2 tbsp. noodles

and later on whatever meat we are having for dinner

    4th Meal

    pureed or cut up fruit

    breast milk

some veggies left over from our dinner

  • DS is 7m1w old and has been eating solids since slightly before 4 months.  He takes 6 oz bottles usually 4-5 times per day but eats one fruit (3.5 oz) - 2nd food at DC in the morning and a veggie of the same size in the afternoon.  In the evening he will eat pieces of what I eat - chicken or beef and have some puffs while I cook or simply have another 2nd food like a meal if I didn't make something he can nibble on.

He would rather eat what I eat, so I usually try and rip up pieces while I give him a veggie.  Depending on how much BM he took at DC as he doesn't always take the 6oz with his food, I will make the nightime bottle larger.  He's a big boy, but tall and he's happy.
