Low placenta.

I'm 14 weeks and went for an ultrasound today. Didn't drink as much water as I usually do for an ultrasound as the tech told me it was to much. The tech told me this time to drink more water next time because my placenta is low. What does that mean? Is it anything to be alarmed About?

Re: Low placenta.

  • I assume that is placenta previa. it means your placenta is near your cervix. it usually moves away on its own as time goes on.

It could mean your placenta is attached low in the womb, but the fact that he told you to drink more water makes me suspect that he just couldn't see the placenta very well.

If your placenta really is attached low in the womb, most of the time that's OK.  Worst case scenario, you'd need a c-section delivery.

This was my first thought too. At this stage, placenta previa is usually NBD. If the placenta doesn't move as delivery gets closer, then it's something to be concerned about.
