I met a girl (16 year old) named Soleil today.  My first reaction was ick, definitely nms.  Though now I am wondering if it could grow on me.  I think it would, if anything turn into a GP name.  Just wondering what others thought.

I think of Punky Brewster.  I don't think it's terrible but it's NMS and I will always have that association.

I speak french as a second language so whenever I see it I always think sun in my head and I wouldn't name my child sun.

My mind goes immediately to Punky Brewster.   A FB friend just named her LO Soleil.  Not really my style.

My first reaction is Cirque do Soleil, and the horrible tragedy they recently had.

After reading other comments, I also think of Punky Brewster.

I'll stick my neck out and say that I love it. It's actually my youngest sister's middle name (I named her).

I think the Punky Brewster thing is silly. What kid growing up nowadays would know anything about her, anyway?

I think it's pretty but it feels a little too pretentious for me to consider myself.

It's my DDs MN. Ramona Soleil. I love it as a middle name, but I probably wouldn't use it as a first name. I agree with PP that kids today have not heard of Punky Brewster, so I wouldn't worry about that.
