Lifting

Does anyone have other children or working with children and is having trouble lifting? I work at a daycare age one and haven't been lifting the children. But today when lifting a few due to urgency felt a strain near my belly button. Any thoughts? I won't be lifting anymore but has anyone felt these kind of strains? It has now gone away. Thanks ladies!!

Re: Lifting

  • I have a 3 yr old and work in a nursing home kitchen. I spend all day lifting a min of 30lbs, what DS weighs, and a max of about 60 to 70 lbs. I lift stacks I dishes and glasswear constantly and have learned to change the manner in which I lift.

You really have to try to lift with you back. If you just don't feel comfortable lifting them then just don't. Since you work in childcare I'm sure there will be times when you HAVE to pick them up so just be mindful of how you actually lift them. Good luck and hope you didn't hurt yourself.

  • I lift my 2 year old several times a day.  The only thing that hurts is my back.  You may have just twisted a little and that caused the pain.

  • I have a four year old who weighs about 40lbs.  I carry him all the time.  I have felt that twinge near my belly button.  It scared me the first time, but now it sometimes happens when I sit up in bed.  It's just those abs stretching out.  I work in event planning, and with both pregnancies, it has not stopped me from lifting.

  • I have a 3.5 year old, just moved into a new house and work in IT.  I'm constantly lifting.  No issues here.  I know how to lift correctly and know my limits.

This. I'm also in health care and my job requires me to lift large amounts. Be careful of how you life and make sure you're using your legs and protect your back!

Yes! I meant to say lift with your legs and not with your back...pregnancy brain strikes again.
  • Thank you for the post. It scared me at first too and as it slowly went away I felt better. Great comments on the lifting advice!
