Which way to face valve & membrane on pump?

With my last child I had the valve and membrane facing me...or facing my breast.  But now I am reading through the manual for my new Pump In Style (long story why I have a new Pump In Style for the second child)...in the manual it never specifically says which way to face them or if it matters, but in a picture they show of assembly it shows the valve and membranes facing away from the women's breast.

Any right or wrong here?

  • Like the little yellow & white part?

I can honestly say I never even paid attention or considered which way they faced and don't see how it would matter.

  • Yeah the yellow and white part. I don't know if there was a reason I had them facing towards me with my last child. I don't know if I read it somewhere or if that is just what I did. I am trying to refresh my memory as it's been 4 years since I had my last child. And maybe it doesn't matter. I just thought I'd ask to see what others have heard/done.
  • It does not matter what way the valve and membrane face.  They are just there to make sure that air is not sucked in from the bottle on the suction part of the cycle.

  • I've never paid attention to it (so I'm sure it's different every time) and in 10 months have not had an issue.  The only thing to pay attention to is use.  The membranes do wear out and need to be replaced occasionally.  I find when my supply seems to be getting low, it's time to replace the membranes.
