An old friend from high school has set me up to speak with his boss about working in their new office. It'll be this week! The boss doesn't know I'm expecting and I am nervous. This is obviously, not something I can hide or explain away. Should I hit it head on? If so, what should I say? Or perhaps another route is best? Thoughts?
Re: Informational Job Interview while 31 weeks along?? What to say?
Good to know...did you start right away? Did you negotiate your leave?
I started the following Monday and when I sat down with my boss I said we'll clearly I am pregnant and didnt feel it was appropriate to bring up in an interview since we were discussing my skills, previous work experience, and ethics but this is how often I go to OB appointments, this is when I am due, and I would like to take x amount of weeks off.
She just laughed and said that yes she could tell I was pregnant but legally they cant outright ask you during an interivew. And we worked out my leave (unpaid of course) and all of that.
Awesome. Thanks so much.
Yes, this all the way. If you don't make it a big deal I don't know that they will. Dress appropriately and let your CV speak for itself.

I started my job at 32 weeks! My boss knew I was pregnant (this had been in the works since January) and everything is working out great. I'm just trying to show that pregnant women can rock it just as much as anyone else and I'm doing a little OT to get things set up so no one will miss me (too much) when I'm gone.
I am, however, coming back within a week after having the baby, but that's because I can bring the baby with me and it's a relaxed situation. But even without that employers can spot a good employee and know when they should be hired. Pregnant or not. I wouldn't try to hide it, just make it seem like "oh yeah, and I'll only be taking off the standard time for maternity leave and then I'll be right back and ready to go!" or something like that.
