Babies: 3 - 6 Months

snotty nose

Alright Ladies I could use some advice! My LO is about 5 1/2 months. She has for almost a week now, been waking up in the middle crying and screaming but wanting to only be held, cuddle, or moved to a different spot. Yesterday, she started a runny nose, so it seems like this would be the cause but why didn't I notice til yesterday that she had a snotty nose. Also any suggestions on how to get it cleared up for her? TIA

Re: snotty nose

  • There is no decongestants for children under the of about 6, so for all the littles all you can do is use saline spray, a nose sucker, and baby Vicks (baby Vicks is very different than adult!!) along with a humidifier and propping up one end of the crib. Stuffy noses SUCK with little ones because you can't really do anything. I hope she feels better soon.

  • DS has a cold and it's definitely worse in the MOTN!! I always suck his snot out with the bulb syringe right before bed, and we run a warm-mist humidifier in his room at night. The thing that seemed to help the most was putting a pillow under his mattress so that he sleeps at an incline. We were a little hesitant about doing it, but it made a huge difference and he woke up with much less congestion after that.
