I got some all natural stuff from Target in the baby section but it smells really strong for citronella. I think its called Babyganics Shoofly Bye. I've been spraying around us on the patio and its worked pretty well. I have also used the Off clip on. Our pedi said you can use 1 with DEET if you give them a bath when you get home.

I'm using doTERRA TerraShield essential oils and it is wonderful and works great. I'm super sensitive to bugs and it seems like Hazel takes after me. I'm not willing to put DEET on my kids without extreme need, and the OFF clip ons and CA Baby stuff didn't work for us at all.

Ahhhh, so this is also a question... Bath after DEET, or bath after any kind of big spray? Also, bath after sunscreen?
Terri just watched a show on the study of Mosquitos. Some people's blood makes the Mosquitos go crazy. Lucky you :[
My pediatrician said that he would prefer that LO have some bug bites than to use a spray. He said if anything, I should spray his clothes, but he didn't like the idea of the spray on his skin.
Now, if I lived in an area with a lot of West Nile, I would reconsider, but for now, we're not using anything other than citronella candles.
I bought "bug repellant" baby legs a few months after he was born and have been saving them for the summer. He's only gotten two bites and that was when he was not wearing them. We do need to be more diligent about putting him in those when we are out because he's allergic to bites.
Luckily for him though, Mosquitoes love me and I end up with 50 bites when everyone else has one or two. Boo. I'm his personal OFF system.
The OFF clip-ons have helped. So does having her in long sleeves and pants--not always possible with the heat, but if you're outside in the cooler part of the day, it helps (especially since mosquitoes can be at their worst in the evening). If you're sitting on a patio or deck and can plug in a fan or two, that helps, too--mosquitoes can't fly in a stiff breeze, so you create a mini wind tunnel on your deck, lol.
We have an all-natural spray--of course now I can't recall the brand--but I haven't used it yet.
I haven't actually sprayed anything directly on him yet. I would after either one that I have. The BabyGanics smells really strong and the Off spray because of the DEET. I am still nervous about using DEET though.
ETA: I was trying to quote THT and got distracted by M peeing on my floor. I guess he figured out how to take off his own diaper.

LMFAO!
I'm pro-spray for where I live. The skeeters outnumber the gnats this year. They are awful! They don't seem to be phased by the citronella candles & clip on.
And if anyone is in Florida, "you're cray if you don't spray." <--quotes because it's my new slogan.

I'm still laughing. I know I'll bite the bullet eventually and spray him. Our mosquitoes are big enough to ride.

Re: Bug spray
We don't have bugs, but I got this article by email a couple weeks ago. Research done for you: https://www.lucieslist.com/lucies-list-blog/2013/6/27/guide-to-summer-part-4-keeping-bugs-away.html
