Adoption

social media advice needed

Have any of you used social media to find a birth mom? My husband and I are in the middle of an adoption process and right now we are on the waiting list, praying that a birth mother comes into our agency and picks us soon...we do know that some people "advertise" themselves through social media, trying to find a birth mom who wants to place their baby for adoption. We know that there are a lot of scammers out there trying to take advantage of vulnerable people. We live in GA and are going through an agency out of SC. We would love for a birth mom to contact our case worker and let her co-ordinate everything. If any of you have advice I would love to hear it! (all this waiting is starting to get really tough!!!) Thanks everyone!

I don't have any direct advice but we've been thinking of advertising in a similar fashion- we just have the same questions as you. Good luck!!!

Have you tried advertising to high school and college counselors in your area? I know that there are a lot of girls in college and high schools that get pregnant and want to place their baby for adoption, but don't trust an agency. I was one of those girls. I was in college and I trusted my family's advice and looked at the families that they brought into the picture before I ever looked at an agency parenting profile. If you feel like you are ready to tell everyone that you are looking to adopt then I would say that social media (twitter, facebook and other sites) plus family and friends just keeping their ears open would be a good option. It's not what you know, but who you know and if a birth mother finds a family through her family and friends she may be more inclined to pick you because of who you know.
  • Thank so you much for your advice!!! I will definitely keep that in mind. We do have a fb page dedicated to our adoption and I was hoping that maybe someone would see it and spread the word to someone they know is looking to place their baby, but nothing yet. Thanks againSmile
